About the Role

The Senior Manager, NSW Policy role is responsible for managing the organisation's vital systemic advocacy work through the implementation of its NSW Strategy. Through engagement with law reform, policy analysis and advice, sector representation and coordination, and research, this role functions within a policy team that aims to influence positive change in structural, legislative, or systemic issues that affect the interests of people with disability.

Role Responsibilities:

As the Senior Manager, you will lead and supervise a small team of Policy Officers and deliver strategic oversight of the NSW Systemic Advocacy function of the organisation. You will also be involved in:

  • Leading the NSW Systemic Advocacy Team and developing the capacity of the team to provide high-quality and evidence-based submissions, reports, and other policy materials in line with the NSW Strategy.
  • Undertaking strategic activities to advance the rights of people with disability in NSW, in collaboration with disability, human rights, and community services sector partners, as well as the organisation’s communications, projects and individual advocacy teams.
  • Consulting people with disability, the organisation’s members and their supporters in the analysis and development of policy positions, submissions and resources.
  • Guiding staff to deliver professional services consistent with the organisation’s mission, vision and principles.
  • Ensuring funding and organisational requirements are determined, understood, and consistently met on time and on budget.
  • Working with the Deputy CEO to finalise and lead the implementation of the organisation's NSW Strategy that sets out policy and advocacy priorities and aligning the Strategy with the findings of the Disability Royal Commission.
  • Supporting Senior Policy Officers to develop project plans for each capacity-building or systemic advocacy project and key areas of work.
  • Building effective and lasting relationships with external stakeholders including senior bureaucrats and departmental staff in the NSW Government, NSW Government Ministers, Ministerial Advisors and leaders within Statutory Bodies.

A bit about you:

To succeed in the role you will be an effective and transparent leader within the policy and advocacy space with a sharp understanding of the Disability Sector within Australia. You will bring adaptability, collaboration, and confidence with your strategic approach. You will also have:

  • Demonstrated prior experience in a similar management role.
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in Social Science, Law or related discipline
  • Strong understanding and commitment to the human rights and interests of people with disability
  • Strong people management skills, and the ability to supervise, mentor, and develop a team.
  • Proven policy and research skills with excellent verbal and written communication
  • High-level stakeholder engagement, negotiation, and collaboration skills, with the ability to build a network of important sector stakeholders.
  • A valid Working with Children’s Check (WWCC), Police Check and a full vaccination against COVID-19, including a booster.
