About the Role

This is a unique role that is responsible for driving a critical source of income for NeuRA. As the Grants Writer you will work with research leaders to apply for grants from a variety of research funding bodies, as well as work with the Foundation to apply for grants from philanthropic bodies which support medical research.

Reporting to the Foundation Deputy Director, this role will require success in achieving financial targets through prospect research; accurate and timely targeting of suitable trusts and foundations; production of compelling funding applications, working collaboratively with researchers; and excellent stewardship of all requirements of the relationship.

The Grants Writer will require excellent writing skills; established science communication skills; strong research skills; strong attention to detail; and the ability to work constructively with researchers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Produce, write, edit, and proofread engaging submissions
  • Achieve budgeted income targets for Trusts and Foundations
  • Provide assistance with writing grant applications to researchers, working closely also with the Compliance Manager (Operations) who oversees research grants
  • Develop and maintain a grants calendar (currently through Strategic Grants)
  • Liaise with researchers to develop accurate and compelling applications and reports
  • Manage the relationship with the Trust & Foundation end-to-end, from initial inquiry and application through to reporting, acquittal and renewal
  • Liaise with the processing and Finance team to ensure trust and foundation financial obligations are adhered to
  • Develop metrics and reports on activity and schedules which ensure necessary actions are taken at the correct times (e.g. giving a researcher adequate notice you need to produce a report)

Skills and Experience

  • Experience in Trusts and Foundations/ Grant and /or Submissions Management
  • Proven track record in end-to-end grant management from prospect research to acquittal
  • Exceptional writing skills preferably within a science context
  • Ability to confidently write in a clear, articulate and compelling manner
  • Ability to work effectively and efficiently in a small team
  • Experience coordinating relationships in a complex multi-stakeholder environment
  • Demonstrated understanding of funding bodies and experience dealing with them to generate income
  • Very strong detail orientation and capacity for prospect research
  • A good grasp of budgets and financial reporting
