For over 50 years, Cure Cancer has funded more than 550 research grants across all cancer types. With a passionate community of fundraisers, corporate partners, researchers and institutions, Cure Cancer is taking on every cancer, no matter the size or rarity, to bring about real, positive change. Its mission is to find the most impactful solutions to cure cancer and work together to bring these ideas to life in record time.

As Chair of the Board, you are a person who understands the for-purpose environment, supports the Cure Cancer’s values, and is committed to the long-term effective operation of the board and success of the organisation.

The ideal person will be a strong and collaborative leader with experience in governance of a fast-paced growing organisation with entrepreneurial spirit to fundraising. You will have a proven track record of ensuring performance standards are met – including governance, building partnerships and delivery to a 5-year strategic plan.

As Chair you will work collaboratively with the Board and CEO to:

  • Continue to drive the growth and expansion of the organisation, drawing actively on your current networks whilst developing new long term strategic relationships to benefit the organisation.
  • Provide inclusive leadership to the Board, supporting the Directors in fulfilling their duties and responsibilities regarding the effective governance and delivery of the organisation’s vision and strategic plan.
  • Facilitate proper information flow to the Board including the quality, sufficiency and relevance of financial and non-financial information.
  • Support, collaborate and work with the CEO to ensure that the Board functions as a cohesive unit and engages with the management team to achieve agreed objectives.
  • Enable delivery of the organisational strategic plan.
  • Provide governance including encouraging positive change to assist with strengthening the board.
  • Act as an ambassador for the organisation, prepared to seek support through your personal, commercial and government networks.

The Board prioritises strong governance and seeks to appoint a Chair with the following qualifications:

  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience as a Board Chair or Chair of a sub-committee or other body.
  • Experienced at a senior strategic level in leading growth, transformation and innovation.
  • Aptitude for fundraising, combined with the ability and will to personally identify and secure potential donor sources.
  • Ideally, successful completion of the Australian Institute of Company Directors Course.
  • Experience of external representation, delivering presentations and managing stakeholders.
  • Financial management expertise and an awareness of charity finance and governance matters.
  • Additional experience with change management, marketing & communications, advocacy and digital technology will be well regarded.

Director Fees/Expenses

There are no director fees paid, all Directors work on a pro-bono basis. The organisation will reimburse for expenses properly incurred by the Chair in connection with the affairs of the company.
