About MHLEPQ

The Mental Health Lived Experience Peak Queensland (MHLEPQ) is the state’s peak body for people with lived experience of mental ill-health or suicidality. Established in 2021 through co-design and funded by Queensland Health, MHLEPQ is a member-based organisation amplifying the voices of over 550 members to drive systems reform. We advocate for culturally safe, consumer-led mental health policy and services that prioritise dignity, inclusion, and community-based wisdom.

Your Opportunity

We are seeking a visionary and values-led CEO with lived experience of mental ill-health or suicidality, who has used their experience publicly to drive change. This is a unique chance to lead an organisation that is reshaping the mental health landscape by putting consumer leadership at the centre.
As CEO, you will:

  • Serve as the primary spokesperson and ambassador for MHLEPQ
  • Lead a skilled team with empathy, integrity, and cultural humility
  • Strengthen membership, amplify underrepresented voices, and elevate First Nations self-determination
  • Guide organisational growth, systems reform, and strategic influence
  • Embed trauma-informed, recovery-oriented, and values-aligned practices
  • Diversify funding and champion lived experience leadership at all levels

What You’ll Bring:

  • A deeply personal, public, and impactful lived and living experience of mental ill-health or suicidality
  • Strategic leadership experience in community services, advocacy, or systems reform
  • Proven track record in governance, stakeholder engagement, and financial oversight
  • A creative and courageous approach to advocacy and policy influence
  • A strong equity lens, with cultural competence and a commitment to social justice
  • 10+ years’ leadership experience, ideally with postgraduate qualifications
  • Relevant equivalent professional experience will also be considered in lieu of formal qualifications.
  • Previous employment in an identified lived experience role or demonstrated active community involvement

What We Offer:

  • The opportunity to lead Queensland’s only consumer-led mental health peak
  • A highly engaged and mission-driven board and membership base
  • A strong platform to influence state and national mental health reform
  • A values-led workplace culture: Safety. Respect. Integrity. Outcomes. Intentionality.
