The Physical Disability Council of NSW are looking for an experienced leader to drive forward organisational strategy, efficiency, effectiveness, and sustainability.
In this role you will lead the organisation in advocating for a state that values people with physical disabilities.
About the organisation
PDCN is the State representative body for all people with physical disability in NSW. We assist people with a physical disability to live ordinary lives as contributing members of the community by providing opportunities for individuals to gain the information, knowledge, and skills necessary to manage their own lives.
Our objectives are:
- To educate, inform and assist people with physical disabilities in New South Wales regarding the range of services, structures, and programs available that enable their full participation, equality of opportunity and equality of citizenship.
- To develop the capacity of people with physical disabilities in New South Wales to advocate for themselves by identifying their own goals and the confidence to find a pathway to achieve these goals.
- To educate and inform all stakeholders about the needs of people with physical disabilities so they can achieve goals and live their lives to full capacity.
Key accountabilities of the role
- Effective organisational leadership, building strategy, efficiency, effectiveness, and sustainability.
- Ensuring a positive culture through role modelling and clear direction
- Operational performance, with high level planning, reporting, compliance, and quality of systems
- Recruitment and management of a high performing team
- Risk assessment and monitoring
- High-level stakeholder relationship management within NGOs, and both State and Federal governments including advocacy work around strategic policy outcomes
- Representing PDCN in the media and other networks/forums
Knowledge, skills, and competencies
- A minimum of 5 years’ experience as CEO or senior executive with high-level policy development or advocacy skills
- A genuine commitment to social justice for people living with a physical disability
- Strong business acumen and demonstrable analytical, research, strategy, and conceptual thinking skills
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability and desire to act as a media spokesperson in a wide variety of settings
- A tertiary qualification in a relevant field (social policy/legal) or equivalent experience which includes a strong working knowledge of the policy framework applicable to disability
- A high-level of effectiveness in juggling priorities, managing deadlines, and managing a diverse portfolio of work activities
- Current Working with Children clearance and criminal record check
Experience of leading a peak body or member-based organisation is highly desirable, as is a background in the disability sector.
