An exciting leadership opportunity to join this rapidly growing national disability advocacy organisation and drive the development of significant new projects. Reporting directly to the Board and working with a small team, this role will be pivotal in driving forward DANA’s strategic plan.

  • Managing the overall operations of the National network for independent disability organisations

  • Fully remote work, however the candidate will ideally be based in Canberra, Sydney, or Melbourne

About the organisation

DANA’s vision is to ensure a national network of adequately resourced disability advocacy organisations that promote the rights, and meets the needs, of people living with disability by:

  • Promoting the role and value of independent disability advocacy
  • Giving members a collective voice
  • Supporting communication and the sharing of information between disability advocacy organisations
  • Developing the capacity of the disability advocacy sector
  • Building the evidence base to demonstrate the value of advocacy
  • Promoting the human rights, needs, value and diversity of people with disabilities

Key accountabilities of the role

  • Establish and foster high-level relationships with senior disability stakeholders, (including government bodies and NGOs) working to raise the organisation’s and disability advocacy sector’s profile
  • In collaboration with the Board, develop, finalise, and execute the 3-year strategic plan
  • Manage complex projects, from initial proposal and funding applications, through to project completion
  • Provide leadership to a team of 10, based across the Eastern seaboard
  • Manage the operation of all aspects of DANA and support the organisation in its role as the governing body
  • Management of business functions including HR, operations and governance including company secretarial duties

Knowledge, skills and competencies

  • A minimum of 6 years’ experience as CEO or senior executive ideally within the for purpose/disability sector
  • An in-depth understanding of disability policy advocacy, and a passion for creating change
  • A tertiary qualification in a relevant field (social policy/legal) or equivalent experience which includes a strong working knowledge of the policy framework applicable to disability across the federal sphere
  • First class communication, financial and analytical skills
  • Willingness and skills to be a media spokesperson plus present to large and small groups
  • Previous experience of project and membership management
  • Strong people management and broad HR skills
  • Current Working with Children clearance and criminal record check
