The Role – Associate Director of Development (ADOD)

Reporting to the Director of Development, you will work closely with the wider development team here in Australia, Hong Kong, China, and the Asia Pacific Region to deliver and secure philanthropic gifts with a key focus on major donor gifts and trusts and foundations.

The Associate Director of Development (ADOD) is responsible for building a national portfolio of qualified major donor relationships. You will be a passionate and engaged relationship fundraiser who can apply the principles of fundraising by embracing sophisticated approaches to develop donor strategies.

You will be seeking support for international conservation needs as well as their four domestic focuses:

  • The Outback (including work with many Indigenous Traditional Owners)
  • Our Oceans (including their extensive shellfish reef building program across the bays and estuaries of southern Australia)
  • The Southern Murray-Darling Basin (including innovative water funds and property management)
  • Protection (working with partners, including governments, to achieve protection, restoration and improved management of 30% of our oceans and 30% of our lands by 2030).

Responsibilities

  • To build lasting relationships with existing & prospective donors
  • Manage & grow a portfolio of up to 75 – 125 mid–major donors
  • Ensure consistency in providing the best possible donor experience
  • Confidently present the mission of TNC to diverse groups educating on the options for giving
  • Handle confidential information with sensitivity
  • Self-motivate, learn & adopt strategic fundraising techniques to reach your personal revenue target
  • Build internal relationships to ensure a successful cross-functional approach

Your Skills and Attributes

  • Demonstrated success growing a Major Gifts Donor Portfolio in a fundraising environment
  • Ability to implement & manage fundraising plans including cultivation, solicitation & recognition
  • Attention to detail & commitment to compliance (donor/legal/IRS)
  • An exceptional & adaptable communicator, confident in sensitive negotiations
  • Experience utilising a fundraising CRM to track multiple prospects & donors
  • A commitment to staying up to date with current trends in the areas of capital campaigns, major gifts or planned giving
  • Work autonomously in a remote setting, confident in identifying & solving problems
  • Travel frequently & work flexible hours as needed
