About the role

This position is responsible for supporting people who are frail aged and/or people who have a disability. The program is inclusive and provides opportunities for participants to be as independent as possible. You will be actively supporting their individual needs and creating a safe environment.

Special Position Requirements

Some lifting and bending will be required when occasionally providing support to people using wheelchairs, equipment, aids and transporting resources to individuals. Supports are required the majority of the time in the participant’s home within the Capital Region so a current driver’s and access to a road worthy and comprehensively insured vehicle is needed.

To be successful in this role, you have:

  • Demonstrated respect and understanding of the participant group.
  • Experience and high level skills in the provision of social support, personal care and domestic assistance.
  • Demonstrated ability to focus on skill development and abilities of individual participants in a manner that enhances their independence.
  • Proven ability to work as a team member and provide regular feedback including the timely reporting of any important information relating to individuals to case managers.
  • Ability to work with flexibility, to use initiative and to explore new and innovative methods of service delivery.
  • Sound understanding of own responsibilities under the Work Health and Safety

Essential Qualifications

  • Minimum Certificate III in Disability, Aged or Community Services (or relevant field)
  • Current First Aid Certificate
  • Hold a current Driver’s Licence and have access to a roadworthy, registered and comprehensively insured vehicle for work purposes.

CRCS requirements

  • Employees are required to hold a satisfactory Working with Vulnerable People registration and have this with them at all times whilst employed by CRCS.
  • Employees are also required to undertake a National Criminal History Clearance by CRCS prior to commencing and every three years thereafter as a condition of employment. Employees are required to advise CRCS of any convictions that may affect their eligibility to work or performing the inherent requirements of their position.
  • CRCS may require the incumbent to undertake employment screening such as a medical assessment, functional assessment or psychological profile prior to an offer of employment and/or as determined by CRCS during employment.

About the Company

Since 1975, Belconnen Community Service (BCS) has been providing a wide range of high quality, integrated and inclusive programs and services to individuals, families, children and young people in the Belconnen and wider Canberra region. In 2019, following extensive stakeholder consultation, BCS drafted a new Strategic Plan for the years 2020-2030, and in 2020, officially changed its name to Capital Region Community Services (CRCS) as an indication of its reach into the wider Capital Region. While the company is currently undergoing this period of transition, its commitment to the people of the Capital Region remains steadfast.
