For more than 40 years, Big Brothers Big Sisters Australia has provided young people (7 to 17 years) in need of additional support, guidance and friendship, with a caring, trained and supported volunteer mentor, who becomes a long-term positive role model.

JOB SUMMARY
The primary focus of this position is providing mentoring support to a group of young people and their mentors in both a group and one to one environment.
You will be responsible for providing mentoring services to young people within the targeted region and delivery of volunteer screening and training for mentors from partner organisations as required.
You will work autonomously in the Sydney region with the support of the Leadership Team and Staff located in the Melbourne Head office.
The job involves four key focus areas:
- Group mentoring, facilitating workshops around relationships
- Supporting BBBS Mentoring Program Online and Face to Face
- Community Engagement
- Program Administration and Continuous Improvement
With support from the central support team, you will be responsible for:
- Screening, training, matching of adult volunteer mentors
- Recruitment and assessment of young people (mentees)
- Support of the young person/mentor relationship for the duration of their involvement with Big Brothers Big Sisters
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCES
- A self-starter with leadership and communication experience
- Tertiary qualifications in Social Work or other related discipline
- An understanding of the issues associated with assessing, supervising & supporting volunteers
- Demonstrated ability to foster strong local partnerships and engage with local stakeholders
- Well-developed IT skills including Microsoft office suite, database management and ability to learn and use staff collaboration and e-Learning platform
- Ability to build rapport and relate to a number of different stakeholder groups from a wide variety of backgrounds
- Excellent interpersonal skills and written communication skills
- Understanding of adolescent child development
- Understanding and experience of schools, education and social services system
- Understanding of mentoring and leadership philosophies and best practice
- Ability to facilitate meetings, workshops and training
- Must have a current unrestricted drivers licence
- Experience in developing relationship programs in wellbeing and resilience for young people highly desirable

- SCHADS Award Level 4.3 - $37.51

- Permanent Part-Time - FTE 0.4 (with the potential for expansion)
