The Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (Ahpra) works in partnership with 15 National Boards to implement the national regulatory scheme for health professionals. The purpose of health practitioner regulation is to protect the public by ensuring that only health practitioners who have the skills, qualifications and knowledge to provide safe care are registered.

This is a Full time, permanent position to be based in Melbourne.

About the role

The Nursing and Midwifery policy team provides profession specific leadership across governance, policy, and engagement. The team works in partnership with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia and collaboratively with key partners including the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Accreditation Council.

Reporting to the Executive Officer, the Senior Policy Manager, Nursing and Midwifery is responsible for managing a team of policy professionals, who collaborate with key internal and key external stakeholders in developing and delivering regulatory policy initiatives with strategic and/or operational outcomes for the National Board and Ahpra.  Operating with a high level of independence, this leadership role operates in a complex and sensitive environment and success requires the exercise of professional judgement and expert knowledge to provide critical advice to the National Board and Ahpra.

The Senior Policy Manager is a member of the Nursing and Midwifery leadership team working collaboratively with the Executive Officer and other team leaders to create a positive work environment where team members are enabled to achieve their potential and a culture that is values led and focussed on strategic and operational delivery.

About you

An experienced leader with extensive experience in in regulatory policy development, implementation and insights in a complex stakeholder environment.

As an individual you are resilient, solution focused and able to recognise and resolve critical and sensitive regulatory policy issues and provide high level, authoritative advice. You must be an excellent communicator who can build and maintain effective relationships and networks with internal and external stakeholders. You will enjoy problem-solving, collaboration and driving continuous improvement. You will also have the ability to lead people effectively, foster an inclusive team culture and deliver tangible outcomes. 

You embody our values of Respect, Integrity, Collaboration and Achievement which in turn builds on the trust and credibility you will develop with key stakeholders. A deep understanding of the nursing and midwifery professions specifically in relation to health practitioner regulation is ideal. 

 Some interstate travel is required for this role.
