The Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (Ahpra) works in partnership with 15 National Boards to implement the national regulatory scheme for health professionals. The purpose of health practitioner regulation is to protect the public by ensuring that only health practitioners who have the skills, qualifications, and knowledge to provide safe care are registered.
We have 2 full-time fixed-term roles for up to 12 months. We welcome applications from all locations with a preference for the roles to be based in Melbourne. You will be required to work a hybrid (2 office days) arrangement.
As the Policy Officer, Nursing and Midwifery, you’ll be working as part of a team led by the Executive Officer to support the Nursing & Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) in its policy development and review work. This includes researching professional matters, developing policy advice, and undertaking appropriate stakeholder management/consultation to prepare registration standards, professional codes, standards, guidelines and policy which meet the NMBA’s requirements.
We have 2 positions available one of which has an IQNM focus in relation to internationally qualified nurses and midwives, candidates with experience or knowledge in IQNM and projects would be highly advantageous, however a background in nursing or midwifery is not required to be successful in this particular role.

You will bring valuable experience within the healthcare sector, with a strong understanding of its structures, challenges, and opportunities. Your background will include the development of policy advice, particularly in areas related to health practice and regulation, supported by a sound understanding of corporate governance and regulatory frameworks. You are highly organised, with demonstrated strengths in time management and strategic planning, which enables you to manage complex projects and competing priorities effectively.
You will be a confident and articulate communicator, both in written and verbal formats, skilled at conveying complex information clearly and persuasively. You will enjoy a collaborative approach, building and strengthening relationships, with an ability to influence outcomes making you a trusted partner in driving positive change across a range of stakeholders.
