about this position

batyr has moved from strength to strength, continuing to grow within each region and receiving increased recognition as an expert in the preventative and educational mental health space. This role is pivotal to the overall success and growth of batyr. The NSW/ACT State Manager will lead the development, support, and growth of the team and programs and offerings within both states. They will empower and mentor the team responsible for booking, staffing, and delivering batyr’s programs and initiatives. This role also involves strengthening existing university partnerships, driving the growth of batyr’s programs, and expanding impact through new collaborations. The NSW/ACT State Manager will pursue funding opportunities and build strategic partnerships to enhance the region’s reach and sustainability.

This role will collaborate with other State and Program Managers to ensure nationally consistent, high-impact program delivery, streamlined operations and processes and effective communication between the regional and broader batyr teams. Balancing the support and guidance of a high-performing team that is delivering on targets, whilst thinking strategically and working with batyr’s Partnership Team to increase fundraising opportunities will be key to the success of the role. The NSW/ACT State Manager will report directly to the Head of Programs. All candidates will need to hold a current Working with Children Check and Police Check, or be willing to obtain these within one (1) month of starting the role.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Together with the Head of Programs, develop and implement a clear strategy to build batyr’s presence across NSW/ACT Team, including setting measurable program delivery and expansion KPIs, in alignment with batyr’s national goals and objectives.
  • Lead strategic relationship development and oversee the team responsible for cultivating partnerships with secondary schools, universities, TAFEs, community groups, youth services, and key stakeholders across NSW and ACT.
  • Create and lead a high-performing, values-driven team; support day-to-day operations while fostering individual and team growth.
  • Drive operational excellence by embedding effective processes and supporting the team to deliver on KPIs and strategic goals.
  • Ensure the region’s expenses and decisions align with the state expense budget.
  • In collaboration with the Government Engagement Manager, foster relationships with state and local government bodies, including local councils and PHNs, to enhance impact and strengthen batyr’s presence in the community.
  • Work alongside the Partnerships Team to identify and secure new funding opportunities aligned with strategic targets and oversee related projects.
  • Oversee the planning, execution, and reporting of funded projects in the region, ensuring alignment with timelines, budgets, and impact benchmarks.
  • Monitor and evaluate program outcomes, adjust strategies as needed to drive impact, meet quality benchmarks, and support future growth.
  • Represent batyr at industry events, community gatherings, and stakeholder meetings to raise awareness, build relationships, and increase brand recognition and presence across NSW/ACT.
  • Manage recruitment and onboarding processes for new hires, with support from the People Team.
  • Ensure the Head of Programs is informed of program quality, key achievements, emerging challenges, and factors influencing regional outcomes.

ESSENTIAL QUALITIES

  • Active interest in tackling the stigma around mental health
  • Proven experience in overseeing program and/or service delivery with measurable outcomes
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
  • Proven ability to build and maintain strong relationships with external stakeholders
  • Experience in managing projects from planning through to implementation and evaluation.
  • Proven experience in managing budgets effectively
  • Proven experience in fundraising, sales, and/or business development
  • Demonstrated experience in leading, motivating, and supporting high-performing teams, with a commitment to fostering a positive and inclusive team culture.

Desirable Qualities:

  • Experience working in the mental health and/or education sectors
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications
  • Full drivers licence
