Required Qualifications

Current Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAE) or Diploma or higher-level qualification in adult education or equivalent as required by ASQA standards.
Cert IV (HLT40213 or HLT40113) and Diploma (HLT50213) in Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care, or Bachelor of Nursing.

Purpose of the Position
Responsible for delivery of approved training programs in Indigenous primary health care and community services:
- Teaching, management and facilitation of culturally appropriate teaching and learning activities.
- Student assessments, maintenance of student records, supervision of students, and monitoring student progression.
- Liaising with remote Aboriginal communities and health industry partners.
- Participate in research activities and all requirements of the course and Directorate of Humanities, Division of Further Education.
- Development of teaching resources and assessment material.
Duties
- Delivery of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care training courses at both remote Indigenous Australian communities and campus based as required. Including lectures, tutorials, practical classes, demonstrations, workshops, work experience and student field excursions, in styles appropriate to the client group.
- Prepare training schedules and plans, application and enrolment forms and associated resources required for the effective and efficient delivery of the ATSI Primary Health Care course.
- Develop appropriate teaching materials which respond to clients’ learning needs. In particular, provide specialist technical knowledge and input into the development of a workplace English language, literacy and numeracy course.
- Participate in flexible course delivery strategies.
- Conduct and/or organise workplace assessment as required.
- Maintain all student records as required, report progression of students to the Directorate and relevant Institute areas.
- Undertake the basic administrative tasks required by all Batchelor Institute staff in relation to course delivery.
- Advise students on and document assessments of student competency according to the Institute’s Academic Rules and the national quality standards (ASQA). Consult with and counsel students on their academic progress and recommend appropriate action.
- Participate in research and/or fee-based activities.
- Maintain personal professional development.
- Attend Further Education Division and Institute meetings as required and participate in quality assurance activities and programs.
- Undertake travel throughout the Northern Territory and while staying on country to deliver workshop block training and assessment.
- Perform other duties typically associated with this designation, as well as any additional reasonable tasks directed by your line manager.
Selection Criteria
- Demonstrated capacity to work effectively within the social, political and cultural environments of Indigenous Australian communities and organisations and communicate sensitively and effectively with indigenous Australians, including adult students and community members.
- 3 years’ experience as a registered Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Health Practitioner or Registered Nurse with current registration with AHPRA or An Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Health worker.
- Current Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAE) or Diploma or higher-level qualification in adult education or equivalent as required by ASQA standards.
- Demonstrated understanding of equal opportunities, affirmative action and quality assurance (ASQA) principles and practices.
- Proven ability to work well in a culturally diverse team and operate independently, conducting research and professional development with strong organisational and time management skills. Capable of handling administrative, supervisory, and communication tasks, including using computer technology and electronic tools.
- Highly effective interpersonal skills including proficient written and oral communication which can be adapted to meet the needs of people from all educational levels.
- Ability to build strong relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.
- Demonstrated initiative and managing workload priorities.
- The successful candidate must possess a sufficient level of physical fitness and resilience to undertake frequent travel throughout the Northern Territory by land, sea, and air (including in light aircraft. This includes the ability to perform physical tasks such as changing a tyre and loading or unloading teaching resources, sometimes in challenging environmental conditions. Candidates must hold a Northern Territory ‘C’ class driver’s licence, have experience driving on unformed roads, and be prepared to stay in a variety of accommodations and settings as required by Batchelor Institute.
