who we are:

Barry Beckett Children’s Centre (BBCC) is a community not-for-profit early childhood education and care service located on the lands of the Wurundjeri people, near Merri Creek in Coburg.

The Centre is named after Councillor Barry Beckett, who championed rights for refugees and local families, creating an important social service in the Coburg area.  We wish to acknowledge and reflect the significance of these aspects of our history and instil a shared understanding with the children who play here and the educators who work here.

About the Opportunity:

  • An opportunity to be an integral part of the leadership and management team overseeing curriculum decisions and direction.
  • Leading and mentoring Educators to provide quality early childhood education and care in line with the Victorian Early Years Learning and Development and National Quality Frameworks.
  • Developing and maintaining high standards of education and care for children enrolled at Barry Beckett Childrens Centre, consistent with our philosophy, vision and values.
  • Designing, reviewing and maintaining the educational and care programs across the Centre in collaboration with all stakeholders. This includes the development of the philosophy, policy and guidelines, & structural elements (including the two annual professional development days) to enable and support excellent pedagogical practice.
  • Engaging educators, children, families and the community in the program and effectively communicate current research and evidence based high quality practise.
  • Managing kindergarten funding through the KIM System, which includes the kindergarten funding and School Readiness Program.

You are passionate about mentoring educators and supporting children in a learning community to explore the world around them whilst encouraging the development of strong relationships and engagement of families

You may be an educational leader or experienced teacher looking to progress your career.

Requirements and information:

  • ACECQA recognised Degree or Master's in Early Childhood Education or equivalent
  • Registered with the Victorian Institute of Teachers
  • Meet the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers
  • Leadership and Management Training
  • Have experience leading teams at a high level

Skills:

  • Exceptional time management
  • Ability to coordinate responsibilities to enable smooth and efficient running of the programs
  • Ability to demonstrate integrity, responsibility and respect in all aspects of the position
  • Ability to plan and efficiently organise time and prioritise tasks

Specialist Knowledge and Skills:

  • Advanced knowledge of Education and Care Services National Law and Regulations, National Quality Standard for Early Education and Care, National Quality Framework the Victorian Early Years Learning and Development Framework and Early Childhood Australia Code of Ethics
  • Advanced knowledge of Kindergarten Funding System in Victoria
  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of current Early Childhood research and demonstrated ability to implement innovative programs
  • Experience in coaching and mentoring staff
