About the role – Permanent Full-time  

Baptist Care SA’s Adventure Services offers campsite and expedition based outdoor programs for over 1000’s of South Australians every year. Helping people connect to themselves, others, God and the natural world through outdoor experiences.

The Expedition Coordinator will be responsible for coordinating and leading off-site journeys for the program. You will be the key influence on guest experience, communicating information to clients, participants and staff, also keeping the program on track, managing group safety, and solving issues as they arise. At its core, this position exists to ensure that all elements of the journey camping experience run smoothly for clients and guests and that group facilitators and Program Leaders are set up for success. 

This role will provide plenty of variety basing yourself across our Mylor and Strathalbyn sites, plus having the flexibility to join expeditions across South Australia and interstate. 

Key responsibilities will include, but will not be limited to:

  • Design outdoor journeys and day experiences that reflect the needs of the clients and Baptist Care SA Adventure
  • Liaise with the relevant client and Adventure Services Manager (ASM) to ensure that all logistical preparations are made prior to the camp or event
  • Effectively plan for and manage risks to ensure the safety of program participants
  • Provide leadership and supervision to clients during adventure-based programs to ensure high quality service delivery in accordance with the requirements of program design, relevant legislation and Australian Adventure Activity Standards
  • Provide leadership, supervision and direction to Program Leaders & Group Facilitators

About you:

As a keen outdoor enthusiast, you enjoy working with young people seeing them grow and become a healthier, more connected version of themselves through facilitating purposeful outdoor programs. You are a natural leader who has a passion for planning purposeful journeys, organised, loves the finer details, with a can-do attitude.

You will also have the following skills and experience:

  • Cert IV or higher (preferably Diploma) in Outdoor Recreation Education or equivalent
  • At least 3 Nationally recognised qualifications in e.g. canoeing, bush walking, rock-climbing, kayaking, mountain biking, high ropes facilitation/supervisor, swim instructing, water sports etc
  • Demonstrated experience (min 5+ years) in delivering outdoor recreation and educational activities in Campsites and wilderness settings
  • Effective at engaging with participants and managing group dynamics in large and small groups
  • Experience training other staff new skills or to reinforce skills already attained

Specific Requirements:

You will be required to have, or be willing to obtain: 

  • Evidence of current COVID 19 vaccinations including any booster requirements
  • Physically capable of undertaking strenuous outdoor activities
  • Demonstrated experience driving 4WD vehicles and towing trailers
  • A valid full South Australia driver’s license (C Class)
  • A current Apply First Aid Certificate
  • Wilderness First Aid HLTAID005 (Off-site expeditions)
  • National Police Clearance
  • Evidence of current COIVD 19 vaccinations including any booster requirements
  • A valid Child-Related Employment Screening via Department of Human Services
  • Training: Safe Environments for Children and Young People (Through Their Eyes)
  • Ability to work outside of normal office hours including weekends
  • Travel within South Australia or interstate
