Aiming High Coordinator

Banksia Gardens Community Services

The Aiming High VCE Support Program is entering its 12th year of operation and is a flagship program for Banksia Gardens Community Services, an innovative community service organisation in Broadmeadows. Working with some of the most disadvantaged communities in Melbourne, the program works in Broadmeadows and Craigieburn, to support aspirational students to achieve their academic goals and move into further education and training.

Students are recruited from a range of local secondary schools, with a focus on those from public schools. They form a weekly study group with access to free tutoring, as well as academic and personal development workshops.

The Aiming High Coordinator is responsible for recruiting and supporting students, engaging and supervising volunteers, liaising with partner organisations. The Coordinator is also expected to create a supportive learning community for the participating students and engage guest speakers. Qualifications and experience teaching at the VCE level is desirable.

Each year, we seek to create a strong community of learners who move through the challenges of VCE together. Aiming High also prioritises inspiring young people and developing students' capacities outside of specific VCE subjects, helping them to develop more self-efficacy, and facilitating exploration and access to further study and career options.

The position is 0.6 FTE with flexibility outside of core program delivery.
