The Recoveries Consultant is responsible for managing and actioning facilities that are in default, coordinating legal enforcement activity including asset realisation and reporting on these accounts in addition to those that are high risk, potentially fraudulent and those that require ongoing follow up or could be considered potential bad debts. The Recoveries Consultant ensures that customers who are delinquent or facing financial hardship have been provided with time to meet and seek repayment arrangements before commencing and coordinating legal enforcement action to keep bad debt loss expense to acceptable levels.

What you’ll be doing

  • Managing and actioning high risk and impaired allocation queues daily which include past due loans, overdrawn and over-limit accounts, ensuring suitable repayment arrangements are made to clear arrears and where not possible proceed with enforcement instructions
  • Engaging with external suppliers on enforcement and recovery action
  • Identifying, assisting and assessing customers experiencing hardship
  • Reporting on accounts deemed high risk and/or potentially fraudulent
  • Reporting on accounts that require on going follow-up, or that could be considered as potential bad debts
  • Perform any other duties as directed.

What you’ll bring

  • Proven experience in collections, debt recovery
  • Good understanding of the legal process for enforcement action and stages of debt recovery
  • Experience in recommending and instructing for legal action in either property realisation or unsecured
  • Experience instructing and liaising with suppliers ( agents / solicitors)
  • Sharing of the Bank’s values and dedication to always act in the customer’s interest in approach to recovery and property realisation
  • Ability to assess financial statements, lending experience desirable
  • Excellent communication skills in written, oral and interpersonal and a high degree of diplomacy when dealing with customers in difficult circumstances
  • Attention to detail
  • Strong problem solving, critical thinking and decision making skills
  • Highly motivated and committed attitude
  • Ability to work in a team environment and contribute positively
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to multi-task
  • Highly competent with the Microsoft Suite (Excel / Outlook / Word)
  • Knowledge of APRA Credit Quality Standards, Consumer Credit Code/Credit Act and Privacy Act an advantage
