Board Members (voluntary)

Balwyn Evergreen Centre

Balwyn Evergreen Centre (BEC) is committed to providing older people in our community with high quality programmes and services that keep them healthy and independent. BEC has been offering programmes to support older people living in Balwyn and surrounding suburbs since 1958. Services include Social Support programs, Exercises programs, Transport, In Home services, Volunteer Dog walking programs, Clinical services and Independent living units.

Major government reforms in the way aged care services are provided is causing a transformation in the way BEC operates, in particular, the provision and management of care services to support a person in their own home.

Due to the Board’s decision to increase the number of Board members from 7 to 9, and the retirement of our Treasurer, we are looking for additional talent to join our team. BEC seeks Board members who will ideally have a passion for and a contemporary view of ageing and aged care, along with experience and/or an understanding of the requirements of organisations operating in the current aged care environment or the provision of health care for older people.

The specific competences and experience that are being sought are:

Financial: BEC seeks a Board member with financial skills to act as Treasurer. Key responsibilities of the Treasurer include:

  • Presenting financial reports to the Board and dealing directly with CEO on financial matters.
  • Chairing the Finance/Investment Committee meetings.

The person holding the position of Treasurer should have relevant qualifications and experience to take the lead for the Board in fulfilling its financial oversight responsibilities.

Marketing/Communications: We are seeking a Board member with marketing/business development/communications expertise. You will strategically assist us to develop a comprehensive marketing and communications strategy; partnering with the Board and CEO to oversee a consistent and active communication strategy to all stakeholders for the purposes of program messaging, awareness and branding.

Whilst these are unpaid positions, they are wonderful opportunities to join a successful and energetic local not-for-profit organisation and contribute to supporting the independence of older people. We value diversity and welcome applications from all sectors of the community.

The Board meets monthly (on the third Wednesday of the month from 5:30-7:00pm) and is the legal authority for ensuring the strategic direction and effective management of the organisation.
