Board Director (Voluntary) - Employment / Workplace Relations Lawyer- Flexible Location

AYCC is seeking a passionate and experienced Employment Lawyer to join our voluntary Board of Directors.

We’re searching for the following skills, experience and expertise:

A strong understanding of climate change, and a commitment to the role of young people in tackling it, and people with any one or more of these skill sets:

  • Holds a current Australian legal practising certificate;
  • Demonstrated expertise in employment and workplace relations law, including workplace rights, compliance, and risk (either at a law firm or in-house);
  • Has a strong understanding of enterprise bargaining processes and the Fair Work Act 2009 (Cth).

While AYCC is a youth-led organisation and half of our Board members must be under 35 at the time of appointment, there is no age restriction for this particular role.

Key responsibilities for this role include:

  • Leading the Enterprise Agreement Subcommittee, contributing strategic insights and providing enterprise bargaining support to the team
  • Providing general employment law advice and guidance to the National Director and AYCC leadership team
  • Supporting the development and review of employment contracts and related policies
  • Being a member of the People & Culture Subcommittee, offering expertise in HR, compliance, and governance matters

AYCC Directors are responsible for:

  • Protecting the mission of the AYCC and support the organisation in building a generation-wide movement to solve the climate crisis;
  • Ensuring long term strategy is in place, including developing, evaluating and refining the organisation’s strategic plan;
  • Ensuring organisational oversight, including approval of major strategic and financial decisions;
  • Ensuring the organisation remains compliant to regulatory bodies;
  • Selecting, supporting and reviewing the performance of the National Director;
  • Driving annual organisation review and risk review process;
  • Ensuring the organisation uses its finances in a sustainable way; and
  • Providing expert and strategic advice to the National Director as required.
