The Australian Workers’ Union (AWU) is the nation’s oldest blue-collar trade union representing over 90,000 working men, women and their families.

The AWU is seeking to employ a full-time Industrial Officer based at the Branch Office in Brisbane.

Duties:

The position will work autonomously but under supervision to:

• Provide industrial advice and representation to members
• Resolve members' workplace issues
• Negotiate on behalf of members with employers
• Participate in joint union/employer committees
• Advocate for members before boards and industrial tribunals
• Assist members with enterprise bargaining
• Undertake industrial research
• Participate in and organise ongoing Union campaigns

Qualifications and experience

• A working knowledge of the federal and Queensland state industrial relations systems
• Experience in union, community, social justice or other campaigns
• Well-developed campaigning or organising skills preferred
• High level of organisational skills
• Strong computer skills
• Ability to work variable hours
• Current Drivers Licence
