We’re looking for a Prosecution Support - Advocacy Mentor who can live and volunteer for 12 months in Auki in the Solomons.
This assignment seeks to review the current level of skill and provide recommendations on training and development.
To be considered for this role, you’ll need a Bachelor of Law (LLB) / Professional Diploma in Legal Practice and experience in prosecuting cases in district and supreme courts.
You will be working alongside the lawyers in Auki to capacity build them in planning and presenting their cases confidently in court.
The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), based in Honiara also has three (3) other Provincial offices in Auki town (Malaita Province), Gizo town (Western Province) and Kirakira town (Makira Province). The office is responsible to maintain a safe and just Solomon Islands, supported by a constitutionally independent public prosecutions service, under the rule of law to deliver an independent, fair and effective prosecution service. Its mission is to deliver an independent, fair and effective prosecution service. Currently there is an executive management group, which includes senior lawyers, who assist the Director to oversee operational matters.
The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) represents victims of rape, gender-based violence, etc. ODPP has a mix of experienced and inexperienced lawyers who provide legal assistance for those seeking judicial redress within the Solomon Islands. They are looking for a volunteer who can mentor, share knowledge and experience with younger lawyers in the firm to confidently represent their clients.
While most senior prosecutors have gained experience and skills in how to effectively advocate for their clients, their younger and more junior lawyers do not have that. Currently the ODPP in Auki, has two lawyers that would benefit from mentoring and capacity building in terms of advocacy and general professional guidance.
