About the assignment

We’re looking for a Museum Curator Mentor who can  volunteer in a hybrid role both remotely (online) and in-country for a total of 12 months.

  • This assignment seeks to preserve and enhance the collection at the museum, IOF Hetauda Campus
  • To be considered for this role, you’ll need a Master’s degree in Botany, Zoology, Forestry or NRM, or professional qualification of a commensurate or higher level 
  • As a volunteer, you will support upgrading record-keeping and processes for ongoing management of the museum collection

About the Partner Organisation

The Institute of Forestry (IOF) was established as Nepal Forestry Institute in 1947 under the Nepal Government, Department of Forests, at Singh Durbar in Kathmandu. The Institute merged with Tribhuvan University in July 1972 under the name “Institute of Forestry”. IOF’s long-term goal is to be a centre of excellence in forestry and natural resource management. IOFs main activities and programs include offering higher level technical education (PhD, MSc, and BSc) in Forestry, Wildlife and Natural Resource Management (NRM) and conducting research, extension and dissemination activities in Forestry, Wildlife and NRM. Staff of IOF feel a strong need to preserve the collection and revitalise the exhibits as part of their commitment to the delivery of quality eduction. Therefore, an Australian volunteer can effectively support IOF in bringing the Hetauda Museum collection up to modern standards and revitalising its exhibits to ensure its preservation and use in future education and research.

There are two allowances for a hybrid assignment.

The allowance for the in-country phase is AUD $1630 per month, the allowance for the remote phase is AUD $79 per month.

Requirements

  • All applicants must be Australian citizens. 
  • A National Police Check must be completed during the application process.  
  • A Psychological Test is required for all volunteer assignments.  
  • Additional requirements include First Aid Certificate.
