About the assignment

We’re looking for an English Language Teacher Trainer and Curriculum Developer who can live and volunteer for 12 months in Laos.

  • This assignment seeks to improve the English language skills of Lao government officials as part of the ELGO program.
  • To be considered for this role, you’ll need a relevant degree and Experience in teaching English as a second Language and developing lessons and Experience with mentoring, tutoring, and supporting skills acquisition
  • As a volunteer, you will support and collaborate with Lao national teachers and other international volunteers to improve the curriculum and pedagogy of the ELGO course.

About the Partner Organisation

The Institute of Foreign Affairs (IFA) was established in 1993 under the purview of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) of the Lao PDR. It is an academic and research institute, with roles and duties equivalent to a department in the MoFA. Its main function focuses on conducting diplomatic and foreign language training for Lao government officials across the country. The volunteer will work at the Human Resources Development Division of the IFA with local staff and teachers. For this assignment, the volunteer will be teaching English as part of a 6-month program named ELGO: English for Lao Government Officials, ranging from beginner to intermediate levels. The volunteer will closely coordinate with Lao national teachers, who use a Core Textbook developed by Australian Aid, and a number of other international volunteers to ensure the four key skills of reading, writing, speaking, and listening are covered. The volunteer will also focus on developing curriculum of 3–5-day English for Specific Purposes (ESP) courses to improve the English language skills of Lao Government Officials.

Requirements

  • All applicants must be Australian citizens or holders of Permanent Residency Visa of Australia, or New Zealand residents in Australia with a Special Category Visa (SCV). 
  • A National Police Check must be completed during the application process.  
  • A Psychological Test is required for all volunteer assignments.  

Additional requirements for this assignment include First Aid Certificate.
