About the opportunity

We are currently seeking a Graphic Designer to join the AVA team at our National Office in St. Leonards, Sydney.

Reporting to the National Communications and Marketing Manager, the Graphic Designer is responsible for creating and maintaining the visual identity of the AVA. This role requires a creative and strategic thinker who can design compelling visuals that align with our brand and resonate with our members. The successful incumbent will collaborate closely with various departments to produce event materials, digital assets, and promotional content that effectively communicates our message and enhances our brand presence across all platforms.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work collaboratively with the Communications & Marketing team to develop and design compelling content that aligns with the AVA brand aesthetic and captivates its members.
  • Continuously seek opportunities to improve the AVA’s visual content and overall brand presence.
  • Advise best practice solutions for on-and-offline communications striving for consistency across all channels.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of effective communication strategies, especially through the provision of design advice.
  • Work in consultation with AVA departments to offer graphic design advice and assistance to their initiatives and ongoing activities.
  • Provide design support for internal communications and organisational documents.
  • Concept, design and produce all visual content across a variety of platforms ensuring all designs align with the AVA's brand image and guidelines.
  • Design, lay out and prepare for print any AVA marketing materials.
  • Develop and support with Canva templates, design assistance and brand management as required.
  • Review, revise, and provide creative input to ensure all content, both digital and print, is of the highest quality.
  • Manage external design resources where appropriate.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends and new design tools/software to ensure the AVA’s visual content remains current and engaging.

About You

Essential

  • Tertiary qualifications in a relevant field
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in graphic design
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop), Canva
  • Strong understanding of branding principles and visual identity
  • Excellent typography, colour theory and layout skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet tight deadlines
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to high quality work
  • Demonstrated experience in designing for both print and digital platforms
  • Ability to find creative and innovative solutions to design problems while retaining consistency with corporate visual style
  • Previous experience in print production management
  • Knowledge and experience of designing across multi-channels, on and offline
  • Stakeholder management and prioritisation
  • Ability to work autonomously as well as in a team
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal

Desirable

  • Use of alternative tools to support the design function
  • Previous experience with a membership organisation
  • Previous experience within the animal industry
  • Experience in video editing or motion graphics is an advantage.
  • Familiarity with web design principles and content management systems is a plus
