  • Part Time Position: 15.2 hours per week from February to September annually
  • (Additional hours may be required during budget and year-end)
  • Up to 38 hours per week from October to January annually

THE ORGANISATION

The Australia Day Council of South Australia (ADCSA) is an independent, non-profit, membership-based association and a part of the Australia Day National network, responsible for the prestigious Australians of the Year Awards. We acknowledge our past and recognise our inspirational people and communities, placing reconciliation at the centre, embracing and encouraging diversity and inclusion for all Australians.

Funding and support comes from the Australian Government (via the National Australia Day Council), the Government of South Australia, City of Adelaide, our membership base (including all Local Councils, Corporate Club and Individual Members), sponsorships, grants, merchandise sales and partnerships. 

THE POSITION

This is a pivotal hands-on finance oversight role. Managing a diverse range of financial and administration tasks, primary responsibilities will include: 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Core:

  • Coordinate, oversee and ensure the integrity of ADCSA’s financial processes and systems, including general ledger, asset register, accounts payable, accounts receivable, financial and cash flow monitoring 
  • Ensure compliance with statutory obligations including but not limited to BAS, GST, PAYG, ACNC & ASIC
  • Prepare accurate and timely financial, WHS and risk reports as required for presentation to CEO, and the Board
  • Support the CEO and Managers in preparation of annual and project budgets using a cost-pricing methodology
  • Liaise with Chief Executive Officer and individual project managers to monitor budgets, including presentation of monthly project statements 
  • Manage and develop the Merchandise & Finance Assistant
  • Assist external Auditor during annual audit  
  • Ensure relevant policies and procedures are kept up to date to reflect current practices  
  • Assist with general administration functions including records management, filing and data entry  
  • Participate in operational and ad-hoc projects as required  
  • Any other duties as directed by Management 
  • Support for fundraising, database, ADCSA events, day to day open and closing, other administration tasks as required.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

Essential:

  • A qualification in Accounting/Finance is essential
  • Undertake month end processes and meet reporting deadlines 
  • Preparation of Finance Reporting for Board meetings 
  • Accounts payable and receivable 
  • Cashflow forecasting and management 
  • Reconciliations 
  • Credit control 
  • Fortnightly payroll 
  • Solid understanding of basic bookkeeping and accounting payable/receivable principles. Experience with Xero would be an advantage
  • Proven ability to calculate, post and manage accounting figures and financial records 
  • Data entry skills along with a good understanding of Balance Sheets and Profit and Loss 
  • Hands-on experience with spreadsheets and proprietary software 
  • Proficiency in English and in MS Office 
  • Customer service orientation and negotiation skills 
  • High degree of accuracy and attention to detail 
  • Excellent communication skills including ability to communicate effectively with the management, peers, community and industry 
  • BAS / Return to work and superannuation lodgement
  • Understanding of ACNC responsibilities 

Desirable:

  • Experience within a small to medium business where you have had to work closely with the operations of the business.
