WHO IS ADN?

Australian Democracy Network (ADN) works for a healthy Australian democracy that puts people and the planet first. We bring people and organisations together to share resources and strategies so that we can have a greater impact on the issues that affect us all. We convene a diverse group of social change makers who focus on a wide range of issues – but we all know we need a healthy democracy to win the progress we seek, and we know we need to work together to be powerful enough to change the system.

We face enormous challenges:

  • The climate and extinction crises.
  • An inequitable economy that traps people in cycles of poverty and disadvantage.
  • Struggling health and education systems.
  • Justice for First Nations people and refugees.

The big decisions which shape our future on all these issues are negotiated through our democratic process. If that process is broken, we will all get bad outcomes. To make progress, we need a healthy democracy capable of delivering the change we seek. A healthy democracy is a precondition to creating the future we want.

We campaign for reforms that make our political system more fair and representative, including reducing the undue influence of big corporate money on our political system and promoting a robust and vibrant civil society.

WHAT’S THE ROLE?

The Digital Campaigns + Communications Lead oversees all aspects of our public facing engagement; including building and mobilising our volunteer democracy advocates, engaging with media, and managing our digital platforms. We're looking for someone with experience developing people-powered strategies and tactics to build our pro-democracy movement, broaden and deepen our supporter base, and implement our digital campaigns + mobilisation. You’ll work closely with our campaigns team to ensure elements of our campaigns are aligned, and with our partner organisations to build shared strategies and deliver tactics together.

We’re a small team and expect collaboration and flexibility, with everyone pitching in on tasks. While this is a senior role at ADN, it entails a balance of strategising and doing – you will still need to be on the tools and happy to pitch in on whatever is needed, while having an eye on the bigger picture.

WHY WORK FOR US?

You will join a small, growing and committed team doing groundbreaking work in tackling the problems holding back Australian democracy and helping create the solutions to these problems.

ADN is proud to offer our staff a supportive workplace with excellent conditions, including:

  • Genuine flexibility in working hours and location
  • Four weeks of annual leave a year plus an additional three days off over the Christmas / New Year period
  • Thirty days of personal leave a year (pro-rata) available to use immediately upon commencement
  • Superannuation contribution of 11.5%
  • Ongoing professional development opportunities tailored to your individual career goals
  • Regular team and whole organisation get togethers so we can plan, learn and grow together
  • Access to wellbeing support

Studies have indicated that individuals belonging to underrepresented groups such as Aboriginal, Torres Strait and Pacific Islander peoples, People of Colour, women, non-binary and gender diverse people, LGBTQIA+ communities, and people living with a disability, tend to refrain from applying for positions if they do not meet all the requirements, unlike the majority of candidates who apply even if they meet significantly fewer criteria. We strongly encourage you to apply if you are interested. We would love to learn how your distinct experience can enhance our team.

Please submit your application as soon as possible, as we are assessing candidates continuously and may conduct interviews ahead of the closing date. We will close applications once we have selected a suitable candidate.
