Join a professional, supportive team dedicated to helping individuals access the support they deserve. We are seeking a compassionate and detail-oriented Senior Applications Officer to play a key role in assessing applications for financial assistance under relevant legislation.
As a Senior Applications Officer, you will be part of a dynamic and client-focused team responsible for processing applications for financial assistance submitted by victims of violent crime. You will work directly with victims or their representatives to gather and evaluate the necessary information to support their claims. This includes managing sensitive and complex cases, preparing detailed assessment notices, and providing high-quality recommendations for assessors and decision-makers.
In this position, you oversee the investigation of cases, including sourcing information from police, medical practitioners, employers, and social services, and coordinating medico-legal assessments.
Your leadership skills will be essential in mentoring and guiding other Application Officers in the team, ensuring consistency, quality, and empathy in service delivery.
You are someone who brings a strong ability to interpret and apply complex legislation, ideally within a case management or client service environment. You have substantial experience working with clients, preferably in the legal, justice, health, or community sectors, and can manage emotionally complex or sensitive situations with professionalism and care.
Your communication skills—both written and verbal—are outstanding, enabling you to engage confidently and empathetically with a diverse range of people, including victims, support organisations, law enforcement, and other government agencies. You can manage competing priorities with strong time management, critical thinking, and the ability to work independently and within a team.
You bring cultural sensitivity and an ability to work with people from varied backgrounds, including those who are vulnerable, traumatised, or exhibiting challenging behaviours. You are also confident with administrative and either have experience in file management systems or financial administration or the ability to quickly learn such systems.
Qualifications in public or social policy, law, community services, or a related field will be highly regarded, as will prior knowledge of the legal and policy frameworks related to victim support and financial assistance.
