  • Deliver client centred statutory and non-statutory welfare services.

Territory Families, Housing and Communities (TFHC) works with families, individuals and stakeholders to create stronger communities where children experience safe, healthy and happy childhoods, women and men from all cultural and linguistic backgrounds have equal opportunities, and senior Territorians are appreciated and respected.

In the Northern Territory, reporting child harm, sexual abuse or child exploitation is mandatory for everyone. TFHC’s Central Intake Team (CIT) operates a 24 hour call centre responsible for receiving and assessing all child protection notifications where notifiers believe a child has suffered significant harm or abuse, or is likely to suffer harm or abuse in the future.

The Central Intake Team is also responsible for linking families to early intervention and prevention support services to pathway them away from statutory child protection services where it is safe and appropriate to do so.

As a Child Protection Practitioner (P1/P2) in the CIT team, you will work alongside a dedicated team of practitioners in a 24/7 rotating roster responsible for receiving, triaging and assessing incoming child protection notifications and requests for early intervention and preventative support.

You will maintain a high level of client centred service through the provision of professional expertise and demonstrated best practice in the delivery of statutory welfare services. This includes the gathering, synthesising and analysing information and exercising delegations under the Care and Protection of Children Act 2007 and operating in accordance with policies and procedures.

To be successful, you require a tertiary qualification which gives eligibility for membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers, Australian Community Workers Association or the Australian Psychological Society, or equivalent.

A strong understanding of the principles and functions of delivering statutory welfare services, conducting strength based assessments, delivering effective interventions, and a demonstrated capacity to interpret and apply complex legislation is essential.

In addition, you require demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture, family and community structures, with the ability to communicate and work in a culturally safe manner. Highly developed oral, written and interpersonal skills and availability to work a 24/7 rotating roster is essential

In return, you will be rewarded with an attractive remuneration package including; 11.5% Superannuation, 6 weeks recreational and 3 weeks personal leave, 17.5% annual leave allowance, generous 24/7 shift allowance, support to grow and develop your career, and the opportunity to enjoy long term employment within the NT Government. Enjoy the flexibility of a rotating day, afternoon and night shift. Staff who work 10 Sundays in a calendar year receive an additional one week annual leave.
