This is a full-time, 3-year (36 months) fixed-term contract.

WHAT WILL YOUR ROLE LOOK LIKE?

The Family Engagement Coordinator is a hands-on, multi-faceted position that requires coordination of child care projects whilst delivering direct support to families. You will work directly with families to understand their needs and find the best child care options for them. You will also work with other ASC teams and external stakeholders, to advocate for policies that support access to child care for people seeking asylum.

Key responsibilities:

  • Coordinate a pilot project that demonstrates the relationship between child care access and employment opportunities for people seeking asylum
  • Working with the Community Engagement Manager, collect and analyse data from the pilot project, and prepare reports to demonstrate outcomes and impact
  • Negotiate reduced fees for people seeking asylum, across regions and with individual centres, building on existing ASC knowledge and skills
  • Provide daily support to families, helping them to access child care, and find creative solutions to resolve barriers
  • Work directly with families to develop sustainable pathway plans, identifying needs and connecting them to other services
  • Collaborating with ASC teams and external stakeholders, you will scope, plan and advocate for appropriate child care options for people seeking asylum

SELECTION CRITERIA - ESSENTIAL

  • Knowledge of the NSW child care landscape and/or Australian early education policy
  • Experience working with culturally and linguistically diverse communities
  • Strong experience negotiating with and gaining support from external stakeholders; excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong project management experience, able to set targets and meet deliverables
  • High-level confidence in using systems and databases
  • Demonstrated ability to research and analyse information and coordinate multiple types of data into reports
  • Good organisational, record keeping and time management skills with strong attention to detail
  • Ability to listen to, engage with, support, and learn from people with complex needs
  • Ability to think innovatively and creatively to solve problems as part of a team
  • Ability to adapt effectively to change

DESIRABLE

  • Experience in early childhood education, including ability to coordinate a caseload
  • Experience working with people seeking asylum, refugees and/or settlement services
  • NSW Driver Licence
  • Lived experience as a refugee or person seeking asylum
