Who we are

Established in 1992, the Australasian Sonographers Association (ASA) is the peak body representing sonographers in Australia and New Zealand with over 7,000 members. As a not-for-profit membership organisation, the ASA is committed to developing the sonography profession to deliver better health outcomes through ultrasound. We achieve this by providing sonographers with professional development opportunities, advocacy, setting professional standards and developing policies and guidelines to support the profession.

What you’ll be doing

Reporting to the CEO, the General Manager, Policy & Advocacy leads the ASA’s thought leadership agenda and serves as a source of strategic policy advice to the CEO and Board. You will manage our relationships with Government, politicians, and stakeholders across Australia and New Zealand.

Your day to day will include:

  • Building a strong network of stakeholders from across our membership, government, politics, related peak bodies, and the broader health and allied health sectors
  • Researching and writing submissions, reports, briefs and other policy outputs
  • Developing professional standards and operational policy in consultation with our membership
  • Creatively identifying new opportunities for thought leadership linked to the needs and priorities of the sonography profession
  • Leading a small team of advisors as part of ASA’s executive
  • Proactively staying across the government and policy landscape, and briefing the Chief Executive Officer on developments

  • ASA is known throughout Australia and New Zealand as the voice of the sonography profession
  • ASA has a clearly defined policy and advocacy agenda that reflects the needs of the sonography profession
  • ASA has strong relationships with Government decision-makers

What we are looking for

Qualifications

  • Degree qualified in public policy, economics, social science or other relevant field

Essential

  • 5+ years’ policy experience in a member-based organisation, not for profit organisation, government department or political office
  • Leadership/team management experience
  • Exceptional written communication and verbal skills, with evidence of producing high quality written outputs such as submissions, policy positions, white papers, and reports
  • Comprehensive understanding of the machinery of government
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills and the ability to engage with different audiences on complex policy issues
  • Solid research skills, including the ability to perform robust desktop reviews, analyse and draw insights from data

Desirable

  • Experience in health policy highly valued

Other requirements

  • Must have unlimited working rights in Australia.
