About ARDS
ARDS Aboriginal Corporation has been working with Yolŋu communities in north-east Arnhem Land for 50 years. We are led by Senior Yolŋu. Our vision is for Yolŋu to engage with the Balanda world as equals. We try to help Yolŋu to be strong in Yolŋu culture, and strong in understanding Balanda culture. We learn from each other and try to work in Yolŋu ways.
About the Role
ARDS’ Community Development work is growing in response to requests from Yolŋu communities to support their visions for self-determination. In some communities this involves working more closely with governments and service providers to make decisions jointly. Often, this involves formalising partnerships between governments or dominant culture systems and Yolŋu governance systems to achieve the change that Yolŋu communities seek. These governance systems are often very different, and significant cross-cultural work is often required to understand differences and develop effective ways of working together.
We need a highly skilled cross-cultural facilitator to support this work.
Role Key Duties
- Plan and lead cross-cultural projects in collaboration with Yolŋu co-facilitators
- Work on cross-cultural projects including leading or contributing to fieldwork in remote communities and homelands and managing project plans and budgets
- Contribute to advocacy efforts to achieve the outcomes that Yolŋu communities seek
- Preparation of funding applications for projects that Yolŋu communities want
- Learn from and contribute to the learning of other Yolŋu and Balanda cross-cultural facilitators
- Contribute to facilitating ARDS Cultural Comptency Training workshops
