HR Advisor

Arc@UNSW

Arc isn’t just any organisation. To us Human Resources is about getting your hands dirty and really understanding what makes our diverse and passionate organisation tick. Arc is one of Australia's biggest & best student organisations and is made up of a dynamic and energetic group of people focused on providing students with the best student experience possible. This goal permeates every level of our organisation - including (and very importantly) our Human Resources department. We are looking for someone who understands that the reason we are one of Australia’s top student organisations is our people, someone that can take ownership of this role and take our Human Resources department and Arc to the next level.

The Responsibilities

The most important thing to Arc is its culture. It’s what makes us who we are and the Human Resources Advisor ideally would embody and foster the culture we have built at Arc like some sort of cultural gatekeeper (a term that honestly, we’re not completely comfortable with but if you get this job your first task will be to come up with new one). In addition to ‘gatekeeping ‘ we have some more traditional HR duties as well:

  • Ensure the direction, policies and service provided by Human Resources is aligned to Arc’s strategy and goals and cognisant of Arc’s culture
  • Implement and enact Human Resource practices that enable Arc to attract, develop, support and retain talented staff members across a varied business portfolio
  • Coordinate Arc’s recruitment process;
  • Manage Arc’s Development Initiatives program
  • Overseeing the Recognition and Succession planning frameworks
  • Ensure Human Resources legal compliance by monitoring applicable state and federal legislative requirements and ensuring appropriate strategies, record keeping and administration
  • Foster and embody Arc’s organisational culture whilst developing strategies for rewarding employee performance
  • Develop and manage existing and new policies and procedures
  • Responsible for the management of Arc’s Work Health and Safety program

Your Experience

To be successful in this role you should be energetic, proactive and dedicated. This role is the primary HR support for the organisation and you should have a well-rounded experience. You should also understand that working in a Student Organisation will mean you find yourself holding BBQ tongs every so often or standing behind an O-Week stall. You should also have some talents, namely:

  • Experience across the breadth of key Human Resource functions including: succession planning, strategic recruitment, workplace agreements, negotiation, industrial relations and workforce development
  • Demonstrated experience engaging with cross functional teams and colleagues
  • Passion for understanding and driving a positive culture throughout a diverse workplace
  • Providing advice and input into the development and implementation of workforce strategies across other departments
  • Understanding and capacity to implement appropriate WHS procedures, policies and evaluation
  • Strong relationship building capabilities and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent written and verbal skills
  • Experience working within Human Resource software systems and a high level of competence in Microsoft Office Packages

Desirable

  • Experience working in a not-for-profit or youth-focused organisation

What we can offer you

  • Additional 3 days paid leave per year (we call them “Arc days” and we love them!)
  • Full-time role in a flexible working environment
  • Supportive and friendly team where diversity is recognised and valued
  • A unique opportunity to shape what Human Resources looks like and represents to Arc
  • Staff wellness initiatives

A position description is attached.
