Manager - Carer Support

We are seeking someone who has experience and a passion for empowering the community in particular within the mental health sector, who can hit the ground running to support and lead a small but growing, centralised carer support team that is well known for their dedication to the organisation and community.

This Carer Support Team provides a dedicated support service to mental health carers consisting of 24/7 telephone support, individual and group supports, a carer education program and respite accommodation. The Manager will provide support and guidance to the team around this framework, as well as playing a part in system advocacy, ensuring diversity and influencing policy to effect positive change for carers.

This role is predominately a Monday to Friday operation however there will be the occasional need to work outside of these hours to support the successful coordination and operation of the services.

You will:

  • Lead the strategic and key operational priorities of the Carer Support team.
  • Manage service budgets in conjunction with General Manager and COO and maintain financial accountability within delegation.
  • Provide leadership to foster an effective, skilled and cohesive team with a culture of collaboration, participation and open communication.
  • Plan, direct and evaluate service delivery and ensure all services delivered comply with the relevant Acts, service agreements, contracts and quality standards.
  • Provide advice, analysis and recommendations to the General Manager on policy, service issues, service development and continuous improvement.
  • Ensure agreed records are maintained to facilitate confidentiality and privacy, accountability, compliance and reporting procedures.
  • Liaise with relevant stakeholders to educate and expand the program.
  • Work collaboratively with internal stakeholders to contribute to Arafmi’s continuous improvement processes
  • Ensure that Arafmi’s philosophy, values and model of service delivery are upheld and reflected in service provision.
  • Participate in an on-call roster to support the needs of the services.

About You

We are looking for someone with a positive mindset, who wants to lead a team where collaboration and customer focus are key to our success.

You must have:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of the issues affecting the mental health and disability support sectors currently and experience in responding to those issues.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, develop and support teams to deliver a range of services within QLD.
  • Demonstrated experience in understanding of the needs of mental health carers and responding to needs in an appropriate manner.
  • Demonstrated experience in successfully managing complex projects within community-based support services.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and collaboratively at all levels of consumer and stakeholder engagement.
  • Ability to build strong, respectful relationships that promote capacity and resilience through periods of complex challenges.
  • A willingness to work flexibly to contribute to the needs of the organisation including participating in an on-call roster.
