About Us
Arafmi is the peak body for unpaid mental health carers in Queensland, provides free services for mental health carers in Queensland, and advocates for systemic reforms. We have over 45 years' experience and are passionate about making a difference to the lives of people and their families and carers.
The Carer Support Team provides a dedicated support service to mental health carers across Queensland. This consists of 24/7 telephone support, one-to-one coaching, support groups, a carer education program, events, respite, stakeholder engagement and participation and engagement with Carer Gateway programs.
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced connector and relationship builder who can facilitate carer engagement with the Carer Gateway, including managing registrations, intakes, assessments and individual coaching and service provision.
You will be also be able to provide mentoring and support to our team of phone support volunteers.
This role is predominately a Monday to Friday operation however there will be the occasional need to work outside of these hours to support the successful coordination and operation of the services.
You will:
- Work collaboratively as part of the Carer Support Team to ensure the successful operation of the 24hr Carer Support phone line.
- Establish and maintain professional and effective working relationships with carers in a manner that preserves their dignity and privacy and caters to their ongoing needs.
- Complete carer intake and registrations, assessments, planning and review, and provide online and face to face coaching and individual supports for carers.
- Build strong, positive relationships and referral pathways with a wide range of services, supports and networks for carers and the people they support.
- Providing mentoring, feedback, training and up-skilling opportunities to phone line volunteers that builds professional practice and ensures contemporary best practice supports are delivered.
- Proactively document and maintain case records and service data, and ensure adherence with relevant quality and compliance standards and protocols.
About You
We are looking for someone with a positive mindset, who wants to make a real difference in carers lives.You must have:
- Demonstrated understanding of the needs of people with complex mental health needs and their carers
- Thorough understanding of the caring role, impacts and best practice carer supports that enable carers to sustain their role and enhance their wellbeing
- Be solutions focused, have case management and coaching skills, understand trauma informed practice, demonstrated capacity to coordinate service delivery, efficiency in working to tight timescales, and subject matter knowledge.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and collaboratively at all levels.
- Ability to build strong, respectful relationships that promote capacity, capability and resilience.
Desirable experience:
- Lived experience as a carer for someone with mental ill-health and the ability to apply knowledge from these experiences in your work is desirable but not essential.
- Formal qualifications are not essential for this role as Arafmi recognises that there are multiple barriers to people accessing formal education and that life and work experience can often offer as much value, however, the role will require a high level of skills and knowledge similar to those gained through formal study at a degree level.
