The PhD postion will be under Associate Professor Martin Downes in the Centre for Applied Health Economics, at Griffith University based at the Nathan Campus.
We are seeking an outstanding honours/Masters graduate to undertake a PhD that will focus on homelessness. On any given night in Australia, approximately 100,000 or 1 in 200 individuals experience homelessness. Homelessness is often associated with social inclusion and people who are homeless are often subjected to high levels of stigmatisation and marginalisation.
The aims of this research project are to provide a voice for the homeless population for them to express their views about what they perceive are needed to help them break the cycle of homelessness, and to evaluate two innovative methods of engagement to facilitate and improve the long-term outcomes of the homeless persons. The findings of this research project will be the stepping stone for submitting an ARC Linkage application.
The selection of applicants for the award of higher degree research scholarships at Griffith University involves consideration of your academic merit and research background. The scholarship will suit candidates with a strong interest in advancing knowledge and leading the way for working and engaging with vulnerable and marginalised populations, especially the homeless population.
The scholarship is for commencement in the relevant research period in which it is offered and cannot be deferred or transferred to another area of research without prior approval. The successful applicant must be supervised by Associate Professor Martin Downes.
The 2019 Griffith University Postgraduate Research Scholarship has an annual stipend of $27,596 (indexed) for a period of up to three years of full-time study. Please see the GUPRS Conditions of Award for more information.
