MYANMAR CAMPAIGN NETWORK COORDINATOR
The Myanmar Campaign Network (MCN) is a network of Australian human rights and aid NGOs, trade unions and Myanmar diaspora organisations working to support the campaign for democracy in Myanmar.
Union Aid Abroad-APHEDA supports the MCN and is the auspicing organisation and employer for the campaign role that works with MCN.
ROLE OVERVIEW
The MCN Coordinator is responsible for working with and assisting the Myanmar diaspora community organisations and Australian civil society organisations to plan, coordinate and deliver human rights campaigns and advocacy towards civilian rule in Myanmar.
The MCN Coordinator assists in building and maintaining an Australian campaign including lobbying, media and movement coordination to drive policy change primarily aimed at Australian government policy.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
- Support the development of a more informed, effective, cohesive and powerful network of groups and people working to drive action on democracy in Myanmar including amongst Myanmar Campaign Network member organisations;
- Facilitate the development and implementation of compelling campaign strategies and tactics that support campaign goals and objectives on making democracy in Myanmar a priority;
- Support MCN members, advocates, and community groups to run high impact campaigns that achieve results;
- Facilitate relevant research, analysis, and strategic scanning to inform campaigns;
- Build and maintain strong and trusting relationships with the Myanmar diaspora communities and work to assist coordinated advocacy amongst diaspora groups;
- Other duties commensurate with skills and competence as required
SELECTION CRITERIA
Essential:
- Demonstrated experience in strategic campaigning, including volunteer, grassroots, or lived experience, or other relevant transferable skills and experience;
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills with a strong ability to build engagement with a diverse range of audiences;
- Demonstrated ability to build strong relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders;
- Demonstrated ability to work across teams and allies to identify and support opportunities for collective action;
- Knowledge of the current political, human rights, humanitarian and social movement context of Myanmar, its ethnic states and border communities.
- A passion for human rights and social justice.

Member organisations of the Myanmar Campaign Network, APHEDA International Organiser-Thai-Myanmar Border.
LOCATION:
Sydney or Melbourne
OTHER TERMS:
- Part time .6 FTE/3 days a week, fixed term 12 months, possibility of ongoing employment
- Terms and conditions of employment are as per the Union Aid Abroad-APHEDA Enterprise Agreement, which includes 15% superannuation, salary packaging is available and family- friendly conditions.
- Pro rata full time salary of $103,001p.a. (Level 2B of EBA)
- This position will involve some domestic travel
- Hybrid work arrangements
- 4 weeks annual leave (Pro rata)
- Additional leave for Xmas-New Year shutdown period.
- Work rights in Australia is a requirement of this position.
