the opportunity
Under the general direction of the General Manager, the Community Life Officer (CLO) undertakes a broad range of tasks relating to the organisation and delivery of events.
The CLO works as part of the ANUSA staff team and provides support to student representatives, staff and volunteers in the overall running of ANUSA community initiatives including Semester 1 Orientation Week, Semester 2 Bush Week and ongoing event programs.
Main Duties & Responsibilities
Operational
- Development and delivery of detailed, best-practice event planning, including management of logistics, risk assessment, budget management and stakeholder liaison for all Association events. It is expected that the position-holder will attend major ANUSA events.
- Develop and review event framework documents for ANUSA events including Semester 1 & 2 Market Days.
- Draft and review specific event proposals as required, including for ANUSA involvement in external events, and ANU and Canberra community events and initiatives relevant to students
- Supervision of casual event coordinator staff including recruitment, onboarding, rostering, assignment of duties and workload monitoring.
- Oversee the management of student volunteers for ANUSA events and liaise with ANU+ program officers regarding approval of volunteer hours
- Be the main point of contact for ANUSA event inquiries, including the provision of general event management advice to ANUSA Departments and clubs
- Maintain records according to relevant ANUSA policies and prepare reports as required to assist in evaluating and improving events and service delivery
- Undertake other duties as required by ANUSA, consistent with the level of the position and the work of ANUSA
Communication & Stakeholder Liaison
- Represent ANUSA at ANU and external stakeholder meetings for events involving ANUSA participation
- Ensure that all ANUSA events and activities involve student consultation at all stages including design, planning, delivery, and post-event evaluation
- Liaise with ANUSA elected representatives and staff to develop a schedule of events throughout the year to enhance our members’ university experience and promote ANUSA services and advocacy
- Liaise with ANUSA staff including the Communications Officer to ensure effective promotion and marketing of ANUSA events
- Work with all stakeholders to increase the number of students participating in and attending events and promote a culture of community participation
- Ongoing consultation with the student body to identify new ideas and opportunities for ANUSA events and activities including regular outreach to other student unions via the SEN network
- Compile the ANUSA sponsorship prospectus and outreach and ongoing liaison with sponsors subject to internal ANUSA approval
Strategic
- Acquire and maintain knowledge of relevant stakeholders within ANU
- Contribute to and support project management activities that implement strategic directions and quality improvement recommendations, and provide feedback for ongoing development of policies and procedures
- Maintain up to date knowledge of ANUSA’s internal policies and procedures

Selection Criteria
- An undergraduate degree plus 2 years relevant experience or a combination of relevant skills and experience
- Demonstrated experience planning and delivering large scale events
- Demonstrated ability to write detailed event framework documents
- Demonstrated ability to manage a budgetary line
- Demonstrated experience supervising junior staff
- Demonstrated high level administrative and record keeping skills
- Experience working with external stakeholders. In particular regarding sponsorship
- Experience in a communications and marketing role will be highly valued
- Experience in a student union or the tertiary sector will be highly valued
- Ability to work with a diverse team of staff and students in a dynamic environment
