The Evaluation and Partnerships team works with government and non-government partners to design and conduct evaluations of policies, programs and initiatives in the family, domestic and sexual violence (FDSV) sector.

The Research and Evaluation Officer will bring their evaluation, research and communication skills to support the team across a variety of evaluation projects. This may include a range of evaluation, research, stakeholder liaison and project administration tasks.

About ANROWS

ANROWS is an innovative research organisation that was established as an initiative of Australia’s first National Plan to Reduce Violence against Women and their Children 2010–2022 (the National Plan) by the Commonwealth Government and all state and territory governments of Australia.

ANROWS is a unique research organisation, being one of the only national organisations across the world tasked with building, translating and disseminating the evidence base on women and children’s safety to inform policy and practice.

As a registered harm-prevention charity and deductible-gift recipient, ANROWS also runs a research program funded by philanthropic funds (ANROWS Research Fund to Reduce Violence Against Women and their Children) and is periodically contracted by service providers and other Government stakeholders to conduct evaluation and research projects.

About the position

This is a full-time, fixed term position for 10 months to cover parental leave, with the possibility of extension. The role reports to the Evaluation and Partnerships Manager with offers of flexible working arrangements.

Remuneration and benefits

The salary range for this position is $89,993 to $95,481 per annum plus 11% employer contributions to the employee’s chosen superannuation fund, with the option to salary sacrifice. ANROWS staff are entitled to four weeks (or pro rata) annual leave, in addition to personal and sick leave.

Key responsibilities

1. Work with members of the evaluation team to design evaluation projects. This may include supporting literature searches, client workshops, development of evaluation frameworks and other key components of evaluations.
2. Undertake qualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis and other research tasks. This may include developing data collection instruments, primary data collection, supporting analysis of qualitative and quantitative data, and writing ethics applications.
3. Support project management and administration of evaluation projects. This may include assisting with monitoring of project plans and budgets, coordinating project meetings, organizing focus groups and progress reporting.
4. Contribute to the preparation of evaluation reports, presentations and other outputs for internal and external audiences.
5. Support the growth of the Evaluation and Partnerships portfolio, including contributing to, or coordinating proposals and grant applications and supporting the development of internal tools, templates and processes for the team. 
6. Work collaboratively with other ANROWS staff members and contribute to work across the research and evaluation team, as required.

Selection criteria

Essential

1. Professional experience in evaluation in a relevant sector, including applying evaluation approaches and appropriate methods.
2. Demonstrated research skills that can be applied to evaluation, including experience collecting and analysing qualitative and quantitative data.
3. Experience in project management of research and/or evaluation projects including coordinating tasks, prioritising competing demands and ability to work to agreed timelines.
4. A track record of effective written communication, including report writing for diverse clients.
5. Well-developed interpersonal and teamwork skills, including the capacity to maintain collaborative relationships with clients and partners.
6. A tertiary qualification or equivalent in a relevant field (e.g. evaluation, psychology, criminology, sociology, public health, gender studies).

Desirable

1. Knowledge of a broad range of issues relating to domestic, family and sexual violence.
2. Experience working with diverse groups, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and culturally and linguistically diverse communities.
3. Understanding of decolonising and/or Indigenous research methodologies and methods.
4. Ability to travel domestically, as required.
