The Barkly Regional Deal (the Deal), the first regional deal in Australia, is underpinned by a statement of intent signed by the Commonwealth, the Northern Territory Government and the Barkly Regional Council, with an investment of $100.5 million. The Deal was instigated in 2019, through community action to address the long-standing inequities and related economic and social issues in Barkly communities.
The Deal, now in the 6th year of operation, is a ten-year commitment to 28 initiatives to be delivered in the Barkly. It is also a commitment from the government partners to a new way of working with the community based on a shared vision and agreed priorities and principles.
Based in Tennant Creek, the Backbone Team supports the governance structures (Governance Table and Working Groups) in implementing the Deal. The Backbone Team applies a model of collective impact that combines locally led social change with government policy and practice reform.
As the Executive Officer you will work closely with the Barkly Regional Governance Group to lead the backbone team. Your role will be pivotal in facilitating the collective success of the Barkly Regional Deal, driving internal and external functions including strategy, communications, community engagement, and data management.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate a passion for the community and will be competent working across and within Aboriginal organisations. You will be a dynamic leader who can grow and lead the Backbone organisation, facilitate the collective success of this regional effort, and be a champion for the initiative.
In return for your hard work and dedication, the successful candidates will enjoy an attractive base salary ranging from $160,000 to $170,000 + Super and a range of benefits including:
