We currently have an opportunity for a First Nations practitioner to bring cultural knowledge and experience to the Homelessness Services team.

Anglicare’s Homelessness Services strive to empower people to make their own decisions and provide them with the resources they need to take control of their lives and participate in their community. Our team provides accommodation and holistic support via a range of services to help people rebuild their self-worth to make sustainable changes in their lives.

Our Recovery Practitioner’s assist people to navigate homelessness and housing pathways, to strengthen their ability to access and then to maintain immediate and long-term housing. They will support service users to build their resilience and where appropriate; their connection to culture and community.

You will make a difference by supporting individuals with their case management plans, regularly participating in court review processes, working alongside other agencies and taking part in court attendance with our clients. The meaningful work carried out in this role will involve work from the Brisbane Magistrates Court, the Toowong ASQ office and community-based outreach including assisting and working alongside people in their homes.

We are looking for a Full-Time Recovery Practitioner to support the program and to partner with the QDAC team (Qld, Health & Qld Corrective Services).

About You

With a demonstrated knowledge of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, histories, practices and traditions. You will also be able to provide
Case management assessment experience with adults who have a long-term history of drug and alcohol misuse.

  • Knowledge of the public and community housing sector
  • An understanding of application of Housing First approaches, Trauma Informed practice and Recovery Oriented practice
  • Demonstrated experience with intervention strategies including navigating homelessness and housing systems, alongside at -risk individuals.
  • Well-developed written and verbal communication, negotiation and influencing skills
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate, to build rapport and develop relationships with a wide range of stakeholders
  • Solutions-focused and self-managing with a strong emphasis on working as part of a team

  • Competency with Microsoft Office; capacity to learn and use other software and systems.

Your qualifications will include:

  • A Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Human Services or a similar field, and/or equivalent practical experience;
  • A current Blue Card (Working with Children) with Yellow Card exemption
  • A Queensland Driver Licence.

Additionally you will be of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent, identify and are accepted within the community.
