Angelica Organic Farm is a 14 acre, certified organic market farm in Glenlyon, Central Victoria (10 mins from Daylesford & 90 mins Nth-west from Melbourne). We grow & directly supply weekly, top quality produce to our Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) members (4 hubs Melb, 2 hubs locally), quality organic shops, many top restaurants & cafes & our own farmers' market stalls in Melbourne. We need to expand our farm crew team a.s.a.p. with more good, reliable members, before our peak produce/supply season hits in a few weeks time
Available to start by 2nd week of Feb 2018 & stay until at least August. Two (2) positions. Successful applicants, once familiarised &/or trained in our farm's operations are expected to perform the duties efficiently & with care - i.e. swiftly, thoroughly, with pride & attention to detail. The role includes assisting in farm maintenance & development on our busy, diverse vegetable market farm. Soil care & ground preparation to organic & Biodynamic Standards. Crop seedling planting (by hand), weeding (mechanical, hand hoeing & hand weeding) & set up & operation of irrigation. Produce harvesting, sorting, grading, cleaning, bunching, storage and order packing. Up keep of quality control for each process & consistency of product is paramount. Basic hand tool operation & maintenance. Tractor operation in a mindful, safe manner. Cleaning premises & equipment. Maintain plant & equipment, including irrigation & implements.
Reliable weekly hours.
Full time - 5 days per week, usually Monday-Friday. Occasional Saturday morning zucchini picking Feb-March approx (shared rotation with other staff) - 33 - 37.5 hours/week depending on farm's weekly needs & occasional major weather issues.
Part time - 3 days per week - Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursdays (Wed & Thurs busy harvesting & order packing days) - typically 22.5 hours/week
Late winter/early spring variations: approx Aug-Sept, hours will decrease by 1 -2 days/week + holiday weeks off
Time: Mostly 7.50am for 8:00am start - 4:00pm finish. However, earlier starts (& finishes) are necessary during very hot days
Pay rate: Mon-Sat: $22.86 Lev.1 - $23.51 Lev.2 Horticultural Award 2010 - Casual rates.
Wage rates & change over to permanent from casual basis are only reviewed after 12 months service and only considered in regards to the business budget, productivity & how the employee consistently contributes to that, their skill development, responsibility, initiative, reliability & loyalty over time.
