POSITION SUMMARY

The Settlement Caseworker is responsible for the delivery, monitoring and review of all settlement case work services provided by the AMWCHR under the Settlement Engagement and Transition Support (SETS) funding stream.

The Settlement Caseworker provides intake and assessment, case planning and review, provision of information, advice and referral pathways for Muslim women from diverse backgrounds. Settlement casework is predominantly telephone-based, with occasional outreach.

Priority areas in casework with clients is employment, education and training, language acquisition, housing, health, family services, justice and social participation.

The Settlement Caseworker role undertakes both short-term clients and in-depth casework and assists in identifying emerging needs and issues for newly arrived migrants and refugee communities. This information shapes the services and responses delivered by the AMWCHR.

The role operates within a casework team that also provides specialist family violence case management. The caseworker is supervised by the casework supervisor.

This role requires high level knowledge around human rights and issues relevant to Muslim women, particularly within the contexts of migration and settlement in Australia. The ability to successfully manage a range of complexities and competing demands are essential to this role.

Reports to: Casework Services Manager

Manages: N/A

Key liaison: Management Team, casework team, other staff

External Liaison: Community members, funding bodies, government agencies, service providers, other external stakeholders

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide intake, assessment, case planning, information, advice and referrals for Muslim women.
  • Maintain case notes to high standard and manage data entry and reporting.
  • Build professional relationship over the phone with clients that enable clients to engage with the service and create meaningful change in their lives that improves health and wellbeing.
  • Promote and utilise a strengths-based approach to casework and consult and critically appraise evidence to inform practice.
  • Work effectively and collaboratively as an integral member of AMWCHR.
  • Take a lead in developing relationships with Muslim women’s community networks and relevant service providers.
  • Provide presentations to target groups and service providers where necessary
  • Provide secondary consultation to service providers as appropriate.
  • Prepare progress reports for funding bodies as required.
  • Contribute to the development of organisational policies and procedures, strategic planning relevant to the case work function of AMWCHR.
  • Document ongoing learnings that emerge through the implementation of case work activities and use these to continuously refine service provision.
  • Contribute to strategic planning and periodic organisational reviews against set plans.
  • Participate in supervision meetings and performance appraisal processes as required.
  • Contribute to the development of key AMWCHR publications, resources and reports.
  • Maintain and build professional networks and foster good working relationships with external stakeholders and represent the AMWCHR in a range of forums.
  • Model AMWCHR’s values and associated behaviours within the Centre and across external liaisons.

KEY SELECTION CRITERIA

The recruiting panel will need to feel confident that the successful candidate will understand AMWCHR values, integrate the values into their work and demonstrate behaviours that reflect the values.

Highly Desirable

  • Ability to work successfully in a changing environment, accept new challenges and continually strive for improvement.
  • Ability to speak a language other than English relevant to recently arrived Muslim women.
  • Understanding of migration and settlement issues.
  • Understanding of Muslim culture and the cultural political representation of Muslim women.
  • Knowledge of women’s support agencies and systems across Victoria.
  • Knowledge of client data and management information systems.
  • Understanding of the following theories: family systems, community capacity building and development, family violence and child abuse, reflective practice.
  • Experience in program evaluation and qualitative and practice based research methodologies.
  • Ability to write professional reports.

Mandatory Key Selection Criteria: (applicants are required to respond to this KSC)

  1. Significant experience in case management relevant to settlement services.
  2. Demonstrated experience in working with Muslim women, their families and communities.
  3. Degree/Diploma in social work, psychology or similar qualification coupled with extensive experience.
  4. Demonstrated ability to establish and utilise referral pathways to achieve client outcomes.
  5. Demonstrated working knowledge of specialist women’s / settlement / family violence services.
  6. Excellent problem solving skills demonstrating resourcefulness and value-adding skills
  7. Well-developed communication skills, including written and verbal presentation skills, diplomatic and effective liaison and interpersonal skills
  8. Ability to provide detailed reports on outcomes and collect statistics for program evaluation
  9. Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team as well as independently.
  10. Excellent time management skills.
  11. Current Drivers Licence, working with children’s check and police checks.
