Amaroo Neighbourhood Centre (ANC) acknowledges the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung of the Kulin Nation, the traditional Owners of the land and pays respect to their Elders past, present and emerging.
 
The Amaroo Neighbourhood Centre opened as an op-shop/Fix-it Centre in 1980 arising from a need in the west ward of Waverley for a local organisation providing a range of goods and services that the residents could afford. The ANC now provides a range of community support services, holds a wide selection of classes and is home to one of Melbourne's best Op shops.  ANC was incorporated in June 1986.
 
ANC is a Not-For-Profit Organisation funded by DHHF, grant opportunities, Op-Shop revenue, and the support of the Monash City Council.

Position Objectives

The Coordinator is responsible for:

  • Recruitment, rostering, and training of volunteers in the Op Shop.
  • Organising the pick-up of donated goods from charity bins and private donors.
  • Ensure sorting is carried out with suitable, safe standards in place.
  • The removal of dumped rubbish and unsaleable goods.
  • Researching and pricing donated goods that may be of high value.
  • Financial procedures in day-to-day retail operations across the cash register, Eftpos and banking. Maintaining accurate financial accounts and records of income and expenses associated with the running of Op-Shop. Ensure accurate and on time payment of all accounts associated with Op-Shop operations.
  • Strategy and continuous improvement including store presentation and Work Health Safety standards.
  • Any telephone or other enquiries related to the Op Shop are dealt with in a polite and helpful manner with confidentiality always respected

Organisational Relationships

The position reports directly to the Centre Manager with accountability also to the ANC Management Committee.

Provide monthly reports and attend meetings as required. Provide the Bookkeeper UpToDate income and expenditure, supplied on time for and liaise as required. Provide all maintenance requests and issues regarding Centre Building to the Centre Manager, working together for optimal community outcomes.

Extent of Authority 

The coordinator has the delegated power to make decisions regarding the day-to-day operations of the Op­ Shop. Responsible for receiving donated goods and to ensure that goods placed in the Op-Shop for sale is clean and in good working order and that these goods shall be on offer at prices that reflect the needs of the community.

Participate in the shared financial operations of the Centre due to secondary approval requirements.

Financial expenditure is governed by the ANC Management Committee through the budget and the organisation’s policies and procedures.

Knowledge and attitude

  • Intermediate Computer literacy and social media skills for administration, finance, and marketing purposes.
  • Safe work practice and standards

Experience and/ or qualifications

  • Relevant qualifications and minimum two years' experience in retail work.
  • Volunteer management
  • Own car is strongly desirable 
  • Experience of managing a small team

Professional development

  • Work Health and Safety training and First Aid
  • Relevant professional development available, as approved by the ANC Management Committee.
