Make a Difference:  

Drs4Drs is delivering three significant health and wellbeing support programs to help medical practitioners and medical students across Australia.

With backing and funding from the Medical Board of Australia and the Australian Government's Department of Health, Drs4Drs is responsible for a centralised tele-counselling service focused on providing mental health support and coordinates doctors health advisory service providers in every State and Territory. Working with the medical sector, Drs4Drs is leading coordinated action on the Every Doctor, Every Setting Framework for systemic change to benefit doctors health and wellbeing. 

Drs4Drs requires two seasoned professionals to lead these programs: 

  • Program Manager: to lead the Every Doctor, Every Setting Framework program, with a scope to convene a National Doctors Health and Wellbeing Leadership Alliance, develop an Action Plan covering five interrelated focus areas with accompanying taskforce committees, and engage the medical sector across Australia to undertake action.   
  • Program Lead: to manage the network of doctors health advisory service providers across Australia that provide health and wellbeing consultations for doctors and medical students, as well as a tele-counselling service provided by Converge International. Key deliverables include leading a review of consultation service delivery against a new quality standards framework, program innovation and service expansion. Program delivery guidance is provided by an Expert Advisory Committee.

The new roles: are based in Barton, Canberra and report to the Drs4Drs Executive Director (ED).  Based on the programs allocated to each role, you will be responsible for:

  • Implementing the new Drs4Drs Strategic Plan with the ED, and guidance from the Board
  • Working closely with program steering committees and relevant taskforce committees, implement approved program initiatives 
  • Championing change based on research and best practice for innovation and service expansion
  • Overseeing contract service providers
  • Being accountable for and reporting on program performance with the program funders
  • Promoting health and wellbeing support service to doctors and medical students
  • Providing secretariat support.

As Drs4Drs is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Australian Medical Association (AMA), you will also work collaboratively within a small project team, and more broadly with AMA staff.

What it Takes: 

You are a seasoned Program Manager or Project Lead, ideally with a background in the health or allied health sectors. Other important talents include:

  • Project delivery - ideally support service programs or projects for a large customer base in the health sector (national or state level), including the ability to oversee budgets, leverage relationships and networks, and manage compliance and risk.
  • Program performance management, including establishing performance measures, monitoring and analysis, reporting and meeting program objectives.
  • Demonstrated ability to work under pressure and deliver project activities with competing priorities and deadlines.
  • Stakeholder engagement and marketing communications, with demonstrated ability in communicating effectively. 
  • Ability to work independently, using initiative to solve problems and produce high quality work with a minimum of supervision and under tight deadlines. 
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a small team. 
  • Well-developed IT skills, including Microsoft office 365 suite, maintaining websites and social media platforms. 
  • Relevant qualifications or a combination of experience and qualifications relevant to the role. 
  • Experience with committees and secretariat support will be of benefit.

Knowledge of Australia’s health system and issues will be highly regarded, as well as experience in health and wellbeing or working with doctors.

The successful candidate will require occasional flexibility to work outside of normal business hours and travel interstate.

Work type: The roles are subject to ongoing grant funding and will be offered on a contract basis, initially ending in August 2025. 

Consideration will be given to a preference to perform a role on a part-time basis.
