The primary responsibility of the Principal Solicitor, Criminal Law Practice (Principal Solicitor) is the management of staff and resources of the ALS Criminal Law Practice in the delivery of culturally appropriate legal services, including information and referral, legal advice and court representation to Aboriginal clients and stakeholders.

The Principal Solicitor also monitors and evaluates criminal legal matters and their potential impact on the organisation with particular emphasis on the organisation’s activities, policies and practices to ensure they comply with all relevant laws and regulations.

The Principal Solicitor plays a pivotal role in the development and review of criminal law policy, company policies, procedures and guidelines and provides high level strategic criminal law operations and policy advice to the Principal Legal Officer (PLO), CEO and Board as it relates the ALS services and operations.
