About this role
We are seeking an exceptional mid-career engineer (typically 6-12 years’ experience) who is passionate about creating better outcomes for South Australia's unique landscapes and communities through sustainable water management. Based in Adelaide, you will join our growing South Australian team while collaborating closely with Alluvium’s waterway and urban water specialists across Australia. Your primary focus will be delivering and growing projects throughout South Australia, working with clients including state and local government, water utilities, landscape boards and private sector partners. You will also have opportunities to contribute to nationally significant projects across Australia and internationally.
What you will be doing in this role
You will work collaboratively across Alluvium Consulting and Alluvium Group to:
- Lead the investigation, planning and design of stormwater quality and quantity management solutions that address complex environmental and urban water challenges.
- Guide the development, analysis and interpretation of stormwater modelling to inform efficient, practical and innovative design outcomes.
- Provide technical leadership in the development of stormwater and water-sensitive urban design solutions that align with industry best practice, client objectives and regulatory requirements.
- Lead the preparation and presentation of design concepts, technical recommendations and project outcomes to clients, regulators, stakeholders and community groups.
- Manage the delivery of urban and rural waterway projects from concept development through to detailed design and construction support.
- Plan and lead site investigations, provide engineering input during construction, and oversee inspection and hold point sign-off activities.
- Lead the preparation and review of engineering design documentation, including reports, drawings, specifications and tender packages to support successful project delivery.
- Mentor and support junior engineers, contributing to capability development within the South Australian team and across the broader Alluvium business.
- Build and maintain strong client relationships, identify opportunities for future work, and contribute to the continued growth of Alluvium's South Australian practice.
Skills and Experience
Professional Experience
- 6+ years relevant experience in consulting or similar professional environment
- Experience applying social science in real-world environmental, climate, health, planning, or community contexts.
Skills and capabilities
- Tertiary qualifications in Civil or Environmental Engineering
- Proficiency with hydraulic and hydrologic modelling of both natural and engineered waterways, including use of design and modelling packages such as (AutoCAD, 12d, HEC-RAS, TUFLOW, MUSIC, GIS software, etc)
- Experience in stormwater management planning and design, integrated water management, hydrology and hydraulics
- Experience working within a team to achieve desired outcomes and an ability to work autonomously when required
- Great attention to detail and strong written and verbal communication skills
- Strong interpersonal skills and an eagerness to develop technical capability and knowledge share
- Willing to travel interstate and to regional areas for short periods (when permitted)
- Registration as a Professional Engineer (RPEng, NER, CPEng or equivalent pathway recognised under the South Australian Professional Engineers Act 2023) is preferred.
