Applications are invited for the full-time ongoing position of Electorate Officer in the Office of Allegra Spender MP, based in the Member’s Electorate Office in Edgecliff, NSW.

The Electorate Officer is responsible for delivering high quality constituent services to the people of Wentworth. The position reports to the Chief of Staff.

The key responsibilities of the role are, but are not limited to:

  • Constituent case management – including triaging of constituent enquiries, responding to constituent enquiries via mail / phone / in person, and being the point of escalation for complex constituent issues.
  • Working with and coordinating a team of constituent liaison volunteers, to support high-quality constituent service and engagement.
  • Policy support – working with the MP, Community Engagement team, Policy Adviser and Chief of Staff to develop a consistent approach to managing constituent enquiries on key policy areas, and proactively sharing information on the MP’s activities.
  • Outreach – building relationships with key government departments, different layers of government, and community stakeholders to support the effective constituent service and engagement.
  • Data management – maintain systems required for the management of constituent issues, report on data trends and performance, and address issues as they arise.

The ideal applicant should possess the following skills, experience, and qualifications:

  • Very strong organisational skills and ability to use / optimise case management systems
  • Interpersonal and relationship management skills
  • Capacity to be proactive, meet deadlines and work under pressure
  • Excellent written and oral presentation skills
  • Demonstrated experience working in a collaborative team environment
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Interest in current affairs and community issues
  • Maintaining the highest ethical standards while working with confidential and private information is essential

Applicants with previous experience working in an electorate office for state or federal member of parliament will be highly regarded, as will those who can demonstrate a strong customer service mindset.

Employment conditions:

The position is offered under the Members of Parliament (Staff) Act 1984 and conditions are outlined in the Commonwealth Members of Parliament Staff Enterprise Agreement 2020-23 which include:

  • A commencing salary between $69,046 and $73,098 will be negotiated depending on experience and relevant skills.
  • An additional optional allowance of up to $12,907 may be considered in recognition of, and as compensation for, reasonable additional hours of work.
  • Relocation assistance, studies assistance and paid study leave may also be available (subject to eligibility requirements).
  • An employer superannuation contribution of 15.4% will be payable.

There may also be opportunities to periodically travel to Canberra for federal parliamentary sitting weeks, should this be desired by the applicant.

An initial probationary period of three months will apply and may be subject to extension.
