The Department

Adult Acute Inpatient Unit (IPU)

The IPU is made up of 58 beds distributed across two wards and includes a state-wide psychiatric intensive care unit (PICU). Each ward has a full range of nursing, allied health and medical staff. The general hospital and ED are serviced by a comprehensive Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry Service and a CATT/Triage team. The community service comprises two community mental health clinics that incorporate Continuing Care Teams (CCTs) and a Homeless Team (HOPS). A Psychiatric Rehabilitation Service includes the Mobile Support & Treatment Team (MSTS), the Continuing Care Unit (CCU), Opening Doors Program and the Complex Care Program (services established between the PDRSS and Clinical Program of Alfred Psychiatry). A Prevention & Recovery Care (PARC) Unit provides 10 step up /step down beds and care is provided in partnership with the Mental Illness Fellowship of Victoria (MIFV) and Alfred Psychiatry. The Primary Mental Health Team (PMHT) supports primary health services within this sector.

The Role

The Social Work Team Leader is senior position to strengthen the social work team within inpatient services. With an expanding graduate program and social work leadership role, this position will support the Principal Allied Health Lead in delivering supervision and support to the 2 SW graduate positions, 2 SW2 positions, and AHA to social work position.

The role will include occasional weekend work. The Team Leader will provide backfill across the wards during staff absences to ensure continuity of patient care. This position will also provide advanced evidence based therapeutic interventions, group therapy, training and leadership for complex cases on the inpatient ward.

Teaching, education and implementation of research and quality improvement activities for the clinical specialty are also important components of the role. This position offers an opportunity to strengthen single session family therapy approaches.

The Social Work Team Leader will work within the Acute Inpatient Units undertaking 0.6EFT direct clinical role and 0.4EFT Leadership, Administrative, Strategic and Supervisory roles.

Qualifications & Experience Required

Essential:

  • Eligibility for membership of AASW (Australian Association of Social Workers)
  • Bachelor of Social Work, or recognised equivalent.
  • Demonstrated skills and knowledge in the provision of complex social work services within an acute health care environment
  • 5+ years relevant post graduate experience with relevant acute health care provision. 7+ years of relevant clinical care work.
  • Experience in the provision of supervision and/or mentorship
  • Demonstrated ability to manage dynamic risk management and care provision

Desirable:

  • Masters or working towards
  • Accredited mental health SW in accordance with AASW requirements
  • Team leadership experience
  • Experience working in acute mental health inpatient settings
