About us

Alfred Mental & Addiction Health (AMAH) is responsible for the operation of services, which focus on people with a severe mental illness residing in the Inner South Eastern area of Melbourne.

The single most important goal of Alfred Mental & Addiction Health is to create an environment that facilitates clinical recovery, supports individual recovery efforts and strives to minimise service system barriers to the recovery process.

Psychological Trauma Service (PTS)

This new service aims to provide a holistic, flexible, curious and empowering space that brings together the person and their support network to collaboratively formulate why they are in distress or experience impaired quality of life and choose how they will pursue their recovery.

What you’ll be doing

In this role, you will play an instrumental part in developing and shaping a trauma service together with other senior team members and the leadership team and provide peer support to carers and families that have a relative or friend receiving treatment from AMAH community programs. You will work in partnership with the AMAH Manager, Carer Peer Workforce, Carer Peer Practice Lead, Carer Consultant and multidisciplinary treating teams to ensure the unique needs of families are understood and that families are supported during the treatment planning processes.

In addition, you will provide guidance and support to the carer peer workforce working in the Psychological Trauma Service.

About you

  • Lived experience of supporting someone experiencing mental health challenges (essential)
  • Formal qualifications are not mandatory for this role but may be helpful - Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work, Intentional Peer Support Training, or other peer workforce experience (Desirable)
  • Experience working within a mental health setting within a carer peer workforce
  • Experience working collaboratively with individuals and groups to build and maintain effective relationships within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Australian working rights
  • Full Covid-19 and 2023 Influenza vaccination
  • Current Victorian Driver's License
  • Current Working with Children Check and be willing to undergo a Background Check
