The Australian Lawyers Alliance (ALA) is a national not-for-profit association of lawyers, academics and other professionals dedicated to protecting and promoting justice, freedom and the rights of the individual. We advocate for law reform on key policy priorities connected with justice, human rights and compensation. We are a small team based in Sydney, working with members from around Australia. Our members include leading solicitors and barristers in their field.

We are currently seeking a conference and event planner to help organise our roster of industry events on a 12-month parental leave contract.

About you:

Our ideal candidate has experience planning events at a member association or another not-for-profit organisation. You will be motivated, self-directed and happy to work either independently or as a part of a team. You will be friendly, flexible and open minded, and enjoy working closely with our staff team and a wide range of members with diverse skills, experience and interests. You will be willing to travel overnight within Australia approximately once a month to manage our events on site.

Key responsibilities of this role will include:

  • Organise all elements of a range of one and two-day conferences, seminars, webinars and social events working alongside existing team members
  • Liaise with our conference and seminar venues to book spaces, select catering and manage all event logistics
  • Organise committee, chair, sponsor, speaker and staff briefs and ensure all items require for onsite are prepared
  • Create and manage registration websites, payment systems and name badges
  • Liaise with and book AV providers
  • Work with our accommodation provider
  • Work with our sponsorship manager to ensure we meet our commitments to our sponsors
  • Work with our marketing manager to provide information needed to market our events
  • Manage relationships with, and the expectations of, our volunteer members
  • Post-event management including reporting, delegate satisfaction survey and event reconciliation

Selection criteria:

  • Experience planning events and exhibitions for professional attendees
  • A customer service attitude
  • Ability to work cooperatively with our existing team and our volunteer members who play a significant role in planning our events
  • An understanding of legal continuing professional development (desirable)
  • Experience working with a CRM such as Events Air or iMIS (desirable)

The role is based in the Sydney CBD but some days can be worked remotely. This is a full-time position but part-time options could be considered.
